TL compared to RSX
alright not much of comparison rather a few thoughts after driving an RSX. Brought my TLS in for oil change and the loaner TL was blocked so I took one of their RSX. (I've owned an 97 intergra and a 98TL previously). Well the RSX was not the top end but still imprssive for a small sport coupe. Not very quick, and engine noisy - but impressive handling even at this level.
Things that stuck out the most was the SS. It shifted so much faster and cleaner then the TLS I was amazed. I got to believe after some practice you could get this things (mated with the 200hp engine) to be as quick as a standard. If you've never driven one check it out. After the SS in the TL's - it's like night and day. It will also downshift to first and stay in first - unlike the TL which hopes out first ASAP.
I thought the sales guy was giving me a bunch of BS when he told me there was a lot "logic" built into the TLS to provide a much smoother ride no matter how its driven - well now I kind of believe it.
For anyone that's wondered or complained about the SS and it's slowness in shifting, and lack of crispness - thats apparently by design.
No real conclusion here just thought it interesting the huge difference in behavior between the TL and RSX with the SS.

i also tried the rsx and yes the ss is so much better. its response time is very short and it shifts really fast. this is totally different from the tl where you have to wait almost 1 to 2 seconds before it shifts
and from what i know the whole transimission (including ss) is redesigned on the rsx

heh.. rsx won top honors in a car and driver comparison of "similar cars" in the latest issue .. may 2002 I think? or is it april? either way, it went against a celica, an eclipse, a tiburon, and a beetle. kinda unfair advantage to begin with .. but whatever. ... it still cost less than that v6 eclipse. stupid bloated useless crap

tl vs rsx
Maybe I can shed some light on this, I am an rsx type S owner, And I have driven TL's first off yes type S is 6 sp manual only.
I would Think The TL type S and RSX type S are real close in acceleration times, since the RSX is lighter but has a smaller engine, As metioned above RSx feels slow, im assuming they were metioning the BASE RSX, yes... its no rocket! Other tahn that thats the only thing one can compare, I mean 2 way differnet cars.... TL is a sport sedan, RSX is smaller sport coupe.
