I bet you guys that complain about the wait would be real happy with an inferior product that only looks nice. Lets rush them so we can get a nice stainless steel engine dress up plate that has no gains

I guess people are upset just because we were supposed to have it by I believe first Christmas, then end of January, then Valentine's day...now sometime March...I'm saying the end of the school year...and that will have been half a year of promises...that's all.

As for broken promises... let me ask you this... Where's the Comptech Supercharger that was first mentioned over a year ago (possible longer)? That's the downside of boards like this. Manufacturers come on here to give us a heads up on products (usually at the beginning of the R&D cycle of that product), then, if they don't release it within 10 days and 5 hours of their first post, we complain the whole time. Sure, announcing a product helps create demand and gets us all excited, but for board members who understand the business cycle and product development, it's annoying as hell to read complaints throughout the whole R&D process b/c it's not out yet. I mean, it was so annoying that the Comptech guys haven't been on this or the CL board in about a year and a half.... we basically scared them off when they were trying to do a good thing for us, and they were regulars for a while.
BTW, Scalbert better be careful b/c Rick Case has a patent on the RES. If his is too similar and the RES keeps being referenced to his design (as this topic does), then he's going to get sued.....

No need to get all huffy and upset Yeesh.
"We were never supposed to have it by any of those dates. A release date was never announced, just estimations based on testing going well."
You're right...there was never a set in stone date...but there were a bunch of "it'll be out by ____, we're pretty sure".
"There were problems with fitment, so that pushes the time back. Wouldn't you rather have a perfect product rather then one rushed so 20 people on a BB can have it before they keep complaining. I know I would."
Yes I have read about those just like you have...but even so. What I would rather have is a good product that wasn't rushed but wasn't hyped. And about that figure of 20...something tells be between AV6, CL, TL, H-A, and others it will be more than 20.

I never said I liked Comptech either

I agree with the bulk of your message.
AS a note, if Scalbert were to be sued, then Acura should be sued. The patent has to cover details that are novel. The Helmholtz resonance/dual plenum is not a new idea, and there is a great SAE paper (and other sources of info) that explains the principal. The area where Scalbert could get in trouble would be if he "copied" or "duplicated" a patented detail related to the new design. As it stands, Scalbert (Steve) is simply experimenting with increased volume and as such would not interfere with prior art (kind of like patenting a bigger wheel). If that were the case, all of the current users of the design (Mazda, Honda, Acura, Porsche, et al) would be saving up money to give Rick Case and friends (Doug) if they decided to increase the internal volume in their designs to compensate for higher altitude target markets.
A number of people are going to find out that "the devil is in the details" and that modeling/iteration between theory and practice is a great teacher. I don't know any of the members that have serious dyno time (for refinements) and the simulation tools to reduce the experimental data back to theory... (Syncivic did produce dynos that looked very nice…)
For me, a quality product (with proven dynos and results in all temperatures/altitudes) is well worth the price AND the wait...

Austin - I'm starting to think that many people are starting to feel like you... less loyal to Comptech as new stuff comes out from other manufacturers. BTW, that's a good thing!!
EricL - Thanks for the clarification. I figured he couldn't get sued unless he copied it almost exactly since he's using an old idea. Personally, I agree with you as far as waiting. Something tells me my dealer won't give me a hard time about the RES purchased from another dealer over a "home-made" device....

"Obviously you're not too into business then, b/c the smartest thing they can do is announce it before it's ready. It creates demand. That's why car manufacturers do it (ever been to a car show?), electronics (ever heard of the Xbox?? You probably heard about it at least a year before its release)... etc. I think you get the idea."
Yep...I totally agree. Hell...announcing it 5 years early...or as early as you can while not being too early to be copied...aka as soon as you get a patent...is a great business strategy. And once everyone gets it they'll just appreciate it more, and will want it more when it comes out. It's like telling the man dying of thirst that there's water if he goes 100 more miles...most people ***** about the 100 miles but would want to hear about it. Personally I'd prefer to wait to be told till I was more like 20 miles away...unless it's something technological that no one else knows about and I don't want to buy...

Alls fair. They did show it at SEMA did they not? Besides, this
looks like a personal project, not a business. But, if it was... thats
just how business works. Land grab. There's no taking sides
or being friends. Whoever makes a quality product first I'll buy.

I've asked for the patent numbers without luck. So here is link for US patent office for both patents and patent applications if anybody wants to try to find something. I've searched for a few hours and didn't find anything.

Not a Blowhole
1) I think EricL has nicely summed up the patent/engineering side of it
2) Mfrs. routinely "announce products" to gauge demand, and also to flush out the competition. In intelligence circles, it is part of "dis-information" techniques. I have no problem with it, as it generally leads to real products as opposed to pipe-dreams.
3) It is clear many on this Forum have no patience - ah, youth. And that the RES produces more hardons than Viagra. While we all would love to schtupp the Prom Queen, common sense and fear of the Lord keep us under control (or does it). "Relax, don't do it" - let the RES thing work itself to market, or not - we want a quality product that delivers and lasts.

Well if we're comparing this to hard ons...you try having a hard on for 5 straight months with some girl telling you she MAY lay you sometime but not coming through, and you come back and tell me how cheery you are
