Question Tire pressures when hot

Anyone know hot to inflate tires when they are hot?

I read somewhere that you have to fill it 5 psi more than the recommended pressure if tires are hot.

Any ideas?

yeah the rule is it'll raise 4-6psi. (so 40 hot, will be 35 cold)
only check when hot in an emergency.

youd be wise to check it when cold

How long do I have to wait for the tires to get "cold" or OK to check the pressures?

the book says that a 3 hr parking and driving less then 1 mile to the gas station is considered cold tires.

the idea of filling 5-6 psi more than it should be is that, you don't need to refill it when it's cooling down... but never take the hot pressure for real, cuz alignment and the road conditions plus the route you take ( probably you mainly take right turns....for example.) would make all four tires represent a diff. temp..thus different pressure. If it's possible, fill it up... then let it cool down in shaded area, I believed it's 5 hours if the floor is cool (like in a garage)... then check it again in the next morning..

now if you go to race track or autoX, then adjust your pressure right before you go.. then after the 1st run, then check it again and even out at your desire pressure...
