Question Tire Pressure confusion

Ok guys, this is the deal. I bought a tire pressure reader (or whatever its called) at Autozone. The one that is about 30cm long (not the crappy cheap ass one). So when I use the one I bought I get reading of less than 30psi, however, when I use the tire pressure reader that is connected with the air pressure from the gas station, it reads less than 35psi. With this result, the tires from the front look a little low in air, so I decided that the one I owe was giving me the right reading. What the hell? What is wrong?

Is it a digital tire reader? If so...trust the one that you bought.

If it was recently purchased I would say go with your tire reader. The gas station ones are always off and never serviced to check accuracy (it's a free product, what's the point, according to the big gas companies). I know of a few guys that keep one in their glove box because of problems with over filling or under filling by other drivers of their cars (mother in one case, way over filled, and a girlfriend overfilled the tire another time). I am going to pick up a digi one soon I think there only 15 bucks or so.

Why not get a digital reader? You can get them for under $10 and they are a lot easier to read consistently.

You can get them online...Cheap Digital Tire Guage

Or your local Radio Shack...or pretty much anywhere. Personally, I'd never go back to an analog guage reader.

Do they sell digital readers at Autozone? I shall get one then...

Here's a better idea. It's only $20

Or...you can get something like this...so you wouldn't have to go to a gas station. Besides...you want to measure tire pressure before you drive it anyways.

12 Volt, 250 PSI Inflator with Digital Gauge

Since you live in L.A., there must be a Target near you. I got my digital pressure monitor from there. It's called AcuPressure (sp) or something like that and it was around $12.

If you have a Costco membership I also saw the same one being sold there which also included a mini key-chain digital tire pressure monitor.

Ignore the tire pressure gauge at the gas station; they are never that accurate do to the abuse they take from other customers. The tire gauge you purchased is most likely just fine. It’s best to check the tire pressures before driving, however if you have to drive a short distance to a gas station the change in pressure will be minimal - so don't worry about it.

I stopped at a mobil the other day to get air and they had this new digital air pump. After you put your $.50 in, you punch in the desired pressure. The pump will put in or take whatever it needs to get to the desired pressure. I thought that was pretty cool. I seemed to work well too.

I use an Accu-tire digital that measure to 0.5 PSI, and make sure I read it 3 times. Read about it in Consumer's mag a few years ago as one of the more accurate and reliable gauges. Pep boys at around $15 to $18...
