Angry Tire damage

So there am I cruising down Front St while they're repaving it...it's 3 lanes, but only wide enough to 2 cars, so there's absolutely no room to move. They had the left 2 lanes shut down.

A nice HUGE pothole in the ground....I had no choice but to go over it or else I would have 1) beaten down the orange cones 2) killed a road worker 3) flipped my car into the river.

There's a bump in the side of the tire now, and it looks like the tire was squished enough so that the rim hit. Also some scrapes on the side of the rim.

The car is driveable...no alignment problems and I made it home on the highway...but what exactly should I do? Take it to my local mechanic and have him replace the tire? Take it to Acura and have the entire tire/rim replaced?

I plan on calling PennDOT (PA dept of transportation) and having them pay for it, since THEY blocked off the road, and THEY made the pothole (I drive that road all the time).

Until it's fixed, I have no choice but to drive on it and hope I don't die...I *HAVE* to get to work...

Tire must be replaced. I would take it to a good tire shop and have them check the rim to make sure it's not out of round,

Good luck trying to get PennDOT to pay. Had a similar situation and they said...."Prove it" Well unless you stopped at the point of the incident, called the cops, had them write out a report, it's not happening. They suck.

Good luck.

Yep, the tire's toast. And I had a similar incident also. I was unable to get them to pay for it either.

Bah. Took it to Sears...

Tire = $134.99
Valve, rubber stem = $2.50
Local tire disposal = $2.00
Balance = $9.99
State environment fee = $1.00
Satisfaction of slashing the old tire to pieces, kicking it into the dirt, cussing it out PennDOT = priceless

very true. you must stop at the exact spot where the incident happened and call the cops for a report.

Beating down the orange cones would've been my decision. Either that or drive very very very slow....u might piss off lots of people but I ain't for damaging my wheels cause street workers are a bunch of idiots...

If I would have went left, I would have ripped through the cones and killed road workers. If I went right, I would have hit the curb and flipped into the river. It's a *VERY* tight squeeze as it is...the construction didn't help.

I didn't have time to slow down unless I wanted to make an insurance claim for a new rear bumper. I was in heavy traffic. This isn't a case of driving like a crazy kiddie at 90mph and not being responsible...it's a case of 30mph downtown traffic and PennDOT screwing up. Now I had to pay $159.45 and waste an hour and a half of my life for THEIR mistake.

To PennDOT:
