Tips for a stubborn brake bleed

When I installed all four of my calipers after painting them (and new front legend calipers) and also stainless steel lines, my brother and I could not figure out what the hell was going on with the brake system.

it was building pressure after a few pumps and then it would go to the floor, we bled at least a gallon of brake fluid before trying the master cylinder (it's 14 years old anyway), still did not do the trick. So I did some googling and found this video. I figured I'd share because I would have never thought of this on my own.

There was a shit ton of air in the front calipers (obviously, they've never been installed). After the air was gone, brake pressure was much better. After a few ABS stops, my brake pedal sucks (I imagine there was air in there too, just haven't had time to rebleed. Again, thought I'd share.

Yeah, replacing calipers and brake line hoses require more effort bleeding. But, the proper sequence is also very important with our TL's.

Gotta love the simplicity of those old muscle cars, even though they could go fast, they couldn't get stopped for shit with those old school drums.

I got that harbor freight bleeder tool. U just hook it to an air compressor and squeeze the trigger pretty much. I had some crap I'm guessing in the line so I just left the bleeder open w the tool still attached and pumped the brakes manually and that did it. Then just squeeze till clean fluid coming out. Great investment for 25 bucks.

awesome. Never heard of such a tool. Gotta link? Harbor Freight has quite a bit of my money lol. With me living alone, I can definitely take advantage of that.

Sounds really nice. I was using a mityvac (handpump) and it didn't seem like it was getting the job done, that's why I had my brother come over and do some pedal bleeds.

Yea that's it. I think it works great. I just finished using mine again today. Changed the fluid in my system again now it's fresh for a new season.

Its CRITICAL when replacing calipers that you prefill them to prevent mass air infiltration of system
and get lube (brake fluid) onto that rubber o-ring

then after install the correct TL bleed order is= driver front then clockwise around the car
LF RF RR LR
If lines have been open such as caliper install, you MUST do 2 abs active (pedal shuddering under foot) stops from 45mph
if 2nd time has firmer pedal you had hidden air in abs,,
rebleed in correct order and all will be well

speed bleeder valves on the caliper or the hft suction type bleeder work for me

REALLY IMPORTANT: the pedal must NEVER REACH THE FLOOR / with bleeder open
that damages the shaft seal in master cyl.
a 1 inch thick piece of wood under pedal arm can help the noob prevent a 100$ mistake
