Question Tips on Installing Comptech Exhaust

I ordered a set of Comptech Mufflers and I was looking for any tips/tricks to getting the old mufflers off and the new ones on. This is my first time working with exhaust so I don't really know how tough it will be. How tough is it to get the old bolts off and get the mufflers off the hangers? I took a look at it this weekend and it doesn't seem like the mufflers will be real easy to get off the hangers. Also the bolts seem pretty rusted. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. They are suppose to get delivered on Friday and I am very excited to get them on.

WD-40 to loosen the stock bolts, and a little silicone on the rubber hangers was all it took for me. It's incredibly easy and straightforward - and comes with good instructions.

To get bolts off easily I use a short (maybe 9") pipe on the handle of my ratchet. This gives you way more leverage and you can get the bolts off easier and put them on tight as fvck.

You might want to even get the bolts tack welded at a muffler shop if you're paranoid someone might steal them. Somone could take your mufflers in about 5 minutes or less.

To get the mufflers out of the rubber hangers, use some water and dish washing soap (less messy than oil, etc), soap it all up and slide it off. Its kind of a pain in the ass but once its soaped it comes right off.

Once you get it off, clean up the rubber hangers and the spikes they go on that you previously soaped. Slip on the Comptechs and tighten them biznatches (don't want leaks!). The sound it will make when you start it will put a big ass on your face for sure!

NSX gave me a good tip when installing, do not cinch down the bolts until the whole exhaust is set in place hanging from the hangers and it should be fine when you tighten it down...

Actually, the thing is that most of comptech exhausts are bent the wrong way, the parts guy at the dealer has stated that they have had to bend those hangers a good bit on all of them to make them look right.

I think I will go for the Mugen exhaust.

Jens at Park Ave Acura said he can fix them. I just need time to get my 15K service done. I should have time since I'm 90% sure I'm quitting my job tomorrow.

If they aren't fixed by then I'd would appreciate your help, but I don't want you to have to do this stuff when you're on vacation. Let me know when the date is firmed up and we can set up a meet (mini-meet if we have to).

Thanks Tim!

Jason, I would drive up to Conn to a meet if you have one when Tim is there. It would be cool to meet Tim.

My exhaust is suppose to get here today (I have my fingers crossed) so I have started to get ready for the install by taking off the stock mufflers. I got three of the four nuts off, but when I came to the fourth I stripped it and I can't get it off. Any suggestions on removing a stripped nut?

It's pretty straight-forward... Just don't expect them to line up perfectly straight... Mine don't..some angles they look straight, some they don't..
