Unhappy Tint "VS" Navigation. Need HELP! Please read

Hi all~
I'm worried. I need help. What am I gonna do?????
Ok ok ok let me calm down.

Ok here's the story.
I got my windows tinted today (35% front and 20% back) at this very well known place in Bayside, NY.
I came home and washed my TL (just the outside)
and then I headed out to NJ to meet up with friends.

I was going STRAIGHT on I-95 to GWB and I noticed that my NaViGaTioN was "recalculating..." WTF!?!?!?
I mean I was going STRAIGHT! no turns no nothing.
And then things started to go bad. The location on screen was WAY OFF...like 3~4 block difference.
You get the picture, right?

I remember reading some posts on how tint affects navigation system, but it seems like it only happens to very few people.
I have 20% on the back, only upto the dot/matrix. It doesn't even cover the box on the top of the defroster.

BTW which one is responsible for sending and receiving signals to and from satillite? Is it the box I mentioned? or is it the verticle line on the rear? I know the parallel horizontal lines are defroster and lines on top of that are....I believe antenna for radio. Am I right?

Could it be the soap/liquid he used to apply tint?
I'm sorry for the long story, but please understand....... I'm going nuts!!!
Should I wait a couple of days to see if my car will "adjust"?

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

THANK YOU

I just got my tint done from AUTOSOUND SPECIALIST IN WESTMINSTER CA. They told me that there are two different types of tint films and one of them is made out of metallic or aluminum material (I am not sure which they said)so on my side window, they used the metallic films and on my back window they they used regular film. The metallic material is more modern film but they said that its not good for cars w/ Navi because it causes distortion on Navi antenna. The reason why they know this is because the owner of the AUTOSOUND SPECIALIST drives Lexus which has Navi and it started having problems w/ the Navi after they got the tint. They said that it happen to many of their customers too which had Navi. My recomendation is go back to the place where you got the tint and re do the tint w/ tint film that has no metallic material(just the back window). One more thing!, It cost about $100 to get the tint off. You CAN NOT just peel the tint off. If you do, you will peel out the defroster & antenna at the same time. DO NOT do this on your own. Get it done professionally because it has to be done by special chemical. Those people at Autosound specialist KNOW what they are talking about. (Trust Me On This) the owner of AUTOSOUND SPECIALIST long time personal friend of mine they would NEVER make anything up or give me fales INFO.

Drive around for a while and see if it continues to act up. My navi work fine after the tint. I have dyed (non metallic) tint 35%. It might have been a satellite 'burp'.
Let us know..

Make sure its non-metallic. All the navis act weird sometimes. You get off the freeway and they don't know it right away, or you turn on a street and the navi doesn't think you've reached the intersection yet and it catches up with you and jumps you into the right location.

The idea that tinting windows can be damaging to the Navi and theres nothing in the manual about it really pisses me off. The idea that I can drive in an underground parking lot and the navi still works, but a tint on the window would hurt the system is disappointing. I made sure to get non-metallic on my rear window, and my navi is working OK

Thx guys.
It's little better now, but still isn't as accurate as before(it was PERFECT b4) tho.

Whenever I notice navi problems I just pull over and reset the location by going into "location correction" screen
I'm sure you all know this, but just FYI

YOU must come to a full stop to use this function

SETUP-->OTHERS-->LOCATION CORRECTION-->use the joystick and angle-icons to change location-->press joystick

I'm pretty sure that's how you do it.

p.s. my tint is a regular type

That's two completely different things you're talking about. When you're driving underground you're not getting any satellite signals at all! The navi is simply "blind reckoning" with your speed sensor and yaw rate gyros. Putting metallic tint on your rear window will attenuate the satellite signals when you do get them, causing the system to lose lock on weaker satellites (near the horizon) and become more susceptible to noise and multipath interference.

It is undoubtedly the tint. We have seen this many times and the only cure is remove it and use non-metallic. The problem wont go away any other way!

I did metalic 50% and 30%..front and back.. and it worked ok.. but i do see recalculation when ever i'm not agreed with navigation... there are situations where i wanna go this way and nav tells me to that way.. then i turn off navigation.. i don't think navigation agrees to go same direction.. but still very helpful..

Trust me on this one. It is because of the Metallic Tint. Use non-Metallic and you will not have the problem..

well here's the problem...
I did use non-metallic tint and I DO have that problem.
It is getting better tho...maybe cuz I use "location correction" every 5 minutes. hehe.
nevertheless, it is very helpful and useful.

I really hope that I'm the only one having this problem with non-metallic tint.

Still love my TL-S
