TINT PROBLEM!!!Suggestions PLZ!!!

I was planning to tint my white type s...

but as we looked at other cars with tint, older ones (juss few years) tends to turn purple-ish... so we went to a place called Trimline, which used the 3m blackpanther film...since its 3m(nice comp.) we thought it woudl be the best...but turns out that they also have a little purple tint...

what kind of tint do u fellow tl owners have??? and any problems with it???

thanx for u input

Get metallic tint then. Reason is, if you dont, it doesnt matter what brand you go with, but it will turn to a purpleish color in a matter of years (3 usually). I'm not sure about other brands, but the one I got has a lifetime warranty on peeling, bubbling and from changing color. The key is not the brand of tint, but of what type.

I don't agree. My previous car was a '93 Vigor that had tints (non-metallic) for over six years and they never discolored. Just make sure you don't use ammonia based glass cleaners. Some formulas of Windex have ammonia.

My tint installers, from both my old Vigor and my current TL, stated that this is the most common cause.

I have 30% smoked tint on mine. I had no problems with them fading to a purplish color over the years. Had the same tint with my old accord and even after 3 years it still looks like that same the day that it was put on.

Go to formulaone.com, and see if there is a dealer near you. They're tint is supposed to be top of the line.

Get titanium

I've had 3 vehicles tinted w/titanium (metalic) tint and was very happy with the results. The name brands are numerous and the shades of darkness are extensive. I also seen reflective tint now like the kind on Lexus RX300 and M-B coupes, looks great.

They are more expensive, but well worth the money (lasts longer, better warranty, looks better, scratch resistant).

Just to clarify, though - I thought people had previously posted to NOT get metallic tint as it would impact the NAV system? Is that true?

I'm about to get mine tinted next week, but I don't want to screw up the NAV? Any suggestions on tint % for a SSM?

Thanks...

I wonder if tint shops will cut the tint to fit around the GPS antenna (that box thing on the top right hand side of your back window). That should be all that's needed to keep the Navi healthy.

the guy that tint my window did that...and you won't notice it at all. but he specifically told me NOT to use metallic tint, cuz it'll affect the radio signal too.

No problems with the Navi ...

... and you do not even notice that the box is cut out. I recommend that you go ahead and get it done.

I'm putting in tint next week. I called the Acura 800 number below for the "metallic" question. I was concerned it might impact the navi. They said there is no proof, but in the end didn't recommend it. I am considering a light brown colored tint, instead of the black.

There are 2 types of tint out there...hi performance which doesn't fade as much & regular which does fade. The hi performance film does have some metal in it.
If you really want a good explanation, I recommend posting on the CL board to Casper98CL...he's my brother and worked in a Window tint & sign shop for almost 10 yrs...he'd be able to tell you the differences.

The guy who tinted my car said the same thing. The ammonia found in most household glass cleaners makes the tint turn purple. Oh, that and really cheap tint.

I just got my car tinted about 3 weeks ago and it had no affect with my radio reception (same with my old CL), and I got metallic all around. Granted I don't have a navigation, but from what I have been reading, some people have had issues with the navi and metallic tint, so you may either way to tint around it, or get non-metallic on the rear window.....

I have metallic tint all around and so far the radio/nav works fine. Maybe I should get together with another non tinted TLS owner and test the reception side by side. As for that little box thing. If thats the antenna, then my tint shop was smart enough to cut around it. You wouldnt even notice it was ever cut out unless you look faily close at it from the inside.
