Timing belt Acura TL 99

Hello guys... Just completing my first month with my acura tl 1999 model. I have 133 k miles on it and I really want to make the timing belt service since is long overdue. I am searching at Ebay and I found a kit for the timing belt job that I am interested on getting. My question is good brand? will recomend? if not which kit should I pick.

Thanks .. Link of the ebay listing below

http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-0L-3-2L-3-...#ht_3076wt_952

I will appreciate any advises on this..

Thanks

That's a pretty good price. You might also want to check out amazon. Its also recommended by some to replace the tension adjuster at the same time. That can set you back $65-$130 depending where you get it. The one for the 2000-2003 models also works on the 1999 (according to my Honda dealer).

I'm going to be doing mine when my parts arrive. 91500 miles but its 13 years old.

PS: GMB is OEM, AFAIK. Other regarded brands are Gates, Bosch and Bando. I have heard that sometimes Gates supplies Chinese pumps, however, although their belts are top notch.

I am sure there are more experienced folks out there that can give recommendations or not as to the brands. Lots of people like the Gates belts. I was told that the tension adjuster may eventually leak so its best to replace. At least you won't have to do it for another 100,000 miles.

YES!! Get everything rockauto has a kit with everything. When I had my timing belt service done at 100k they didn't replace the hydraulic tensioner. 30k later it seized leaving me to get the car towed and luckily no damage except having to redo it again. You will want to do waterpump, Timing belt, tensioner pulleys, and hydraulic tensioner. once again make sure you do everything.

A proper timing belt service replaces 5 parts: timing belt, tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, water pump. Spend a few extra bucks now...or thousands later. And I would seriously consider replacing the front crank seal ($15) since you have everything apart anyway.

Manifold/EGR clean + new spark plugs? You don't have to do this when you do the timing change however.

Hey!. I saw somewhere that I should use one kind of spark plugs for my car.. I did not make a note on the brand or model number. Can you provide that info? what spark plugs (brand, model) should I get for my car?

Thanks again !

Spark plugs are avoid idea and don't take long. If you check in the black marker under sponsored sales/ group buys brakemotive has a deal for all four rotors plus pads for 145$. Mine have been holding up great for around 8,000 miles. While yours at it I would also get legend calipers that are two piston. You can get them for around 100$ for both, part number for the calipers are FRC10627 and FRC10628. You can also get stainless steel lines as well

Thank you guys.

Regarding the Legend calipers I will look into that, if you guys said is better and will not cause any issues with my car.

It gives much better contact with the pad. Many people have been running them for thousands of miles with no problems what so ever. It's a good cheap upgrade that won't cause any issues.

Hi guys

I am about to change my timing belt and see you guys talking about changing tensioner adjuster. I did a little research and found 2 of these

Beck/ Arnley

Tensioner

They look different but are both compatible. Please give me some advice plzz

I was told by my Honda dealer that the long black ones (2000 and onward) will work with the 99 TL. I'll be installing that (in fact, the very one from the same seller you have) on my 99 TL.

I just ordered the complete OEM timing kit for $295 from Hansel Acura. Kaleb is still honoring the price he quoted two years ago.

Thanks Kaleb & Larry !!

I'd go with the Hansel Acura kit. This is what I got two years ago.

That ebay kit does not have the Hydraulic tensioner listed. Although $130 is rather cheap, however that tensioner is one of the more expensive ($82) parts of the kit aside from the water pump.
