The Time Has Come....Help me make a decision

Hi guys....owner of a 2002 TLS here.....after putting on 315K on the car and taking meticulous care of it the tranny finally crapped out on me.....i quickly bought a Toyota Solara for the wife so we had a car to drive around in but i can't get my baby TL out of my head...i am now seriously thinking about getting a rebuilt tranny put in. I am in Toronto, the cost will be around $2K. What are your thoughts on that? i looked around for comparable TLs but i don't want to spend more than $2-$3K and there is always the chance that the tranny on any TLS i buy will end up crapping out on me anyways....i know the engine on my car is solid because i have taken good care of it with regular oil changes every 3-5K and kept all fluids in check....what do you guys think? worth it? or should i just kiss the TL good bye?

Thanks.

No rebuilt tranny...
GET AN ACCORD V6 2006-2007 TRANSMISSION and you will have a car until your engine dies..

Just don't rebuild your trans.

If you like your car, and I LOVE my car...

The applicable replacement is this.

ACCORD V6 2006-2007 TRANSMISSION

I hope you get your babe back in business

The motor has not many problems w/ 300/k with proper maintenance. It's a tank.

I have 156,xxx. on my original transmission. It works great! I drive like a grandma normally... However, I have been known to smoke a V8 when I hear a.. guy that want's to smell my exhaust.

Hey Merchantofmenace, ya have a difficult and emotional decision to make with your beloved TL. I gotta say that at 315k....the car has more then served ya well. (Much better then the average car would've.)

However, putting the sentimental stuff aside.....ya really gotta evaluate the entire car from ground up before investing a substantial amount of money into it. There's alot of other potential issues to consider such as overall condition, rust, t-belt, suspension, gaskets, seals, etc, etc.

Maybe try to locate another nice used one would be worth thinking about. If ya can swap the tranny on your present TL with an AV6 Honda donor for $1500, it may be a viable option.

in the States you can pick up a used trans from the junkyard/auto recycler for about 500-750$
and the wrecker place or a private shop will do install for about the same price
So for 1500 you can keep your baby,,,IF the other major parts are good- suspension- brakes etc and it ran well,,
you cant find another used car for that price that will give you the same enjoyment a gen2 TL will
- the trans noted above is an oddessy/accord series unit, much better than TL design but same size and mounting
