And the time has come....
Hey Guys, so I've been skulking around the forums for a few months, using some of the DIY's but not really posting.
Well the time has finally come for my 03 Type-S the trans blew up last night, in total the demise came without warning and I barley got it home to the garage.
Since the car only has 48k miles on it I plan on fixing it, I have access to a complete mechanic/body shop so tools won't be a problem, but while looking around I found some interesting information.
One was using a 05 Honda Odyssey van transmission. Does anyone have any more information on this? I read it was a complete drop in minus tapping out some holes and a few parts swaps. At first I was thinking this as I don't want another TL trans that will blow up 30k latter.
But then.... I found all these postings in the DIY thread about converting the car to a 6sp manul, something I've only dreamed about. Problem is all these posts only contain a TL or something else, at least the ones I've found. Has anyone done this on a Type S? Can I keep the engine I have now or do I have to do a complete engine/trans swap? What about the wiring harness and other electronics? I was reading this post https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/6-speed-conversion-591872/ and he was saying that a type S could possibly be less complicated?
Thoughts anyone on what I should do, can do etc?
Don't want to get rid of the car, it's like brand new, minus a trans. So was just playing around with some ideas, I'm a very capable mechanic and have plenty of other turner friends who would want to help convert my car to a manual, was just wanting some thoughts from experienced Acura owners.
Thanks!

A few members on here have done the swap, I don't see why the type S would be any different...Its still dealing with the same engine, just a few different parts, and the transmission is the same...If you have the know how and the money to do the swap, I say why not! Go for it.
I personally have never heard of using the Odyssey transmission on the TL, but I personally would never. My parents own a 2000 Odyssey that they purchased new in 99'. In the first 3-4 years, the transmission had gone 7 times, yes 7. I know that sounds crazy, but it is true. Luckily for them the car was still under factory warranty so it was repaired free of charge. After the seventh time they finally got it right and have yet to have another problem with it. I would assume that the 05' and the 00' probably have there differences in construction, but I am not a firm believer in Honda transmissions.

As for the Odyssey tranny its the same series as our trannys just reprogrammed a little bit differently to change gears at a higher rpm. And yes and 05 oddessy and 05+ TL trannies will fit. Theres a thread on the CL forum where somone put in a 5AT tranny from a 2007 TL.

Hey ANC thanks for the info on the Oddy. I do know that the 04, 05, and 06 have different trans then the 00's but it's good to hear some first hand experience with them. I'm sure it's not great but I bet it's much better then a stock TL trans, I've read even the rebuilds after 05, that shouldn't have the clutch pack problem still blow up.
Just kinda out on what to do with the thing and looking around for ideas. Its worth too much to me and in money to just park it, plus it's been babied it's whole life so it's like new.
I've already asked NVA-AV6 for some help, he posted in other forums about the Oddy trans and 6sp manual conversions.

No problem man! I'd say go with the 6 speed, way more fun and no problems there.
Contact phee as well, he's done the 6swap.
I bought my car used and when I called myAcura to change the info, I asked about the service history, and my transmission on the tl was replaced in 04, and my fathers 03 tl was replaced in 06 when his torque converter took a shit, so I would steer clear of Honda automatics.
