Red face ...til the transmission dies

Good morning all,

Being a 2G lover, I went and overpaid for a beautiful '02 in Arizona. Of course, the transmission started to slip a few months later. Couldn't find anyone to do the AV6 swap in Indy (probably didn't do enough digging) so I got the transmission rebuilt. Thought I could get a decent life out of it if I just kept the fluid bright. Wrong. Got about 20k on the rebuild, the car now has 134k on it.

Anyway, the plan now is to drive it until the transmission pukes. As of now, it doesn't slip until the temperature is below freezing and only does it on the first 2-3 shift.

Does anyone have an idea how long I can limp this thing along? I'll probably sell it on here eventually and hope it goes to a good AV6 swapper.

My 2001 started shifting "funny" shortly after I bought it from a relative. I did the "clean the screens" bit, changed the trans filter, and a 5x5 drain and fill. That was around 226K, I have 237K now and prepping to repeat. Trans runs fine. As far as I know, it's the original.

Yeah, the screens are clean and the fluid is nice and red. Reading around the site over the years, seems like not all of the transmissions were created equal.

You like it better than the Honda fluid eh?

I was doing a 1x3 change with every oil change. Maybe I'll just start doing a 4x3 once a year.
