I was spraying it while the car was on! But the TB was clean to begin with!

I used this on my Honda Accord not to long ago. Huge difference. A mechanic told me to spray in their really good. Flip down the flange of course so that it gets good and soaked. Then, he said to start the car and let it run for awhile. The smoke was not bad at all and after about a minute or two, the car was running great. When starting the car, it will be a bit rough to start, but it will fire up just fine and is designed to burn off rather fast. Now, this is from a Honda and other import mechanic who has been doing this for years. I did this 3 months ago and my other Honda is doing just fine.

My advice is, get a little brillo pad and scrub the lip of the throttle body port as well. Not only the valve needs to get cleaned you know. Might as well include that while your at it.

I used to the clean the TB on my Talon every few months or so. I did it with the car off and would lock the butterfly open with light pressure from a pair of Vise Grips on the outside linkage.

I was mainly concerned with the inside of the TB so whenI sprayed the (carb) cleaner (Gumout) in there I would brush EVERYTHING with an old toothbrush. Being sure to get both sides and all edges of the butterfly. The least amount of dirt on that thing lets more air in even though the Throttle Position Sensor is telling the engine is totally closed, leaning out the fuel (a bad thing). The Brillo pad idea might not be a good idea. If that butterfly plate gets out-of-shape the car will idle like crap from then on.

The car will run rough for a minutes or so when you first start it but it will burn off the rest of the Gumout and run great.

In the Mitsubishi TB there are a couple of sensors that don't like cleaner that well so be carefull and look for them.

What's the difference between throttle body cleaner and carb cleaner?

I used to have an Isuzu that I sprayed carb cleaner into and it never idled right again. Definitely watch out for the sensors.
