For those of you discouraged about Comptech exhaust......
I just wanted everyone to know that if you're discouraged by the "3-5 hp gain" by the exhaust that some people claim....don't be. I showed Tim as well as everyone else at HIN that the exhaust was good for 13hp @ the wheels........yes @ the wheels, DYNO PROVEN......any questions just e-mail myself or Tim......

Questions: How did you arrive at the number? Is that ontop of the stock hp @ the wheels? Is that 13 additional hp dependent on any other mods that you did to the car? Was your car dynoed with or without your intake?

Wow... I guess this proves that the stock exhausts are REALLY restrictive!!
Thanks NSX4DR for your findings!!

maybe taking out the resonator box did something. I doubt the comptech exhausts alone can produce 13 hp to the wheels. Comptech themselves only claim 2-3 hp to the wheels from it. The only reason i bought the comptechs were for the sound and look. they're great.

Has anyone else dyno'ed a stock TL? Wonder what the HP at the wheels when a car is fully broken in. I am not saying that NSX4DR is inaccurate, I just wondered if the car not being fully broken in played a small part.

Hey NSX4DR,
When you dyno'd on your "2nd day of ownership", how many miles were on the car ?
The motor is tight (less power) for the first few hundred miles...
The difference in hp gain with a motor that was already broken in might be less than 13 hp, IMO ?

Thats got to be the resonator. I felt a huge gain after I gutted mine out.

From everything I've seen and read, you simply aren't going to get that kind of horsepower gain from just bolting on the Comptech exhausts....I know, you dyno'd the car....my suggestion is there was a problem somewhere with your dyno measurements. I trust Comptech's dyno measurements(max gain...a few hp). I'm not saying this to be critical, merely to prevent new forum members from getting false expectations.

It sounds great that you received such a gain, but I seriously doubt that just mufflers can provide such a hp gain. I have done flow analysis in my fluid mechanics class and there is no way just mufflers can possibly give such gains. Unless the mufflers were like CRX mufflers.
Anyway, it must have been the resonator box or just because of the break in period or something. I just don't want people on this board to think such things, and also for the people that know about cars and that are educated in the engineering field to look down upon our readers because of their beliefs of such radical claims.
No offense at all...

Hee, here is another engineer who has taken few fluid mechanics courses. O well... personally, I think there is a lot of potential for moding a V6 Honda. However, 13hp gain is just unbelievable. May be, someone who has the comptech muffler can do one dyno to ensure that the result is accurate. Jesus man, I really want to get one when I heard that it gives 13hp gain.

Ok guys......here you go....
look at the midrange comparison
lowest one is stock
2nd one is Comptech exhaust with no resonator
3rd is with custom "short ram" intake

The two dyno runs originally done were within a two week period......less than 500 miles.....I don't believe in break in periods.... .....so out that theory goes...same time of day....same outside temperature....same barometric pressure.... .....

I'm another mechanical engineer so at least what I have to say should have some credibility . . . NSX4DR - Your dyno run of 190 hp at the wheels is great and I don't question that. It's trying to credit the 13hp gain between the two dyno runs to the Comptech exhaust is what I have a problem with. There's simply too many variables to account for to make any kind of direct comparison between the two dyno runs. Variables I'm referring to are: car break-in period, time interval between the two dyno runs, and resonator removal. Ideally, if you want to make a direct comparison, all other factors need to remain the same, and do a before and after of only one mod (Comptech exhaust). Even dyno runs of the same exact car conducted at different parts of the day will post different results. The more you could keep all the other factors constant, the more valid your comparison will be.
