Thinking of buying a '03 TL but I have my concerns
Hello,
This is my 1st post to the group.
My mom purchased a TSX about 18months ago. I am very impressed with the car and I am thinking of giving Acura a try.
My price range and feature needs point to the TL.
I like the car however I have read about the tranmission failure problems with this car.
Are the problems widespread or has it been seen in a limited number if cars?
Is there a year model that hasn't seen the problem?
How should I go about doing my research on a car that I may think buying?
Thanks
Walt

Hey
welcome to the board. I wouls strongly recommend you to get an 04 TL and save yourself alot of hassels. As far as I know, most 99-03 TL has tranny issues. however there are less problems and failiers on 1999 models compairing to 2000-2003. I have a 2000 TL with 140K miles on it and I am on my 2nd tranny. first one failed at 90K.
By the way, all trannys from 99-03 are covered by ACURA up to 100K/7 Yrs so if yours fail in that time period, they will take care of all the cost for you!
I hope that helped a bit.
Good luck with your purchase

the problems are pretty much widespread.. dont get me wrong, there are quite a few who still havent experienced any problems but most of us have had.. I have a 99 and im on my 3rd tranny. its all up to you, if your willing to take the risk of loosing a tranny go for it! not like your loosing anything.. im on my 3rd and havent spent a dime yet

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the honest insightful feedback.
It's good to hear that Acura is taking care of their customers. But I need a ride that will have as few headaches as possible. I know all car makes have their quirks but this one's major.
This helps me make a decision. I will skip the 03.
My price range is in the low 20's so I will have to make the Acura my purchase a little further down the road.
