Thinking about picking up a TL-S

What should I know about them before buying one? I know they have tranny problems. What else? Maintenance should be the same as any other Honda, no?

What year and mileage? Car is low maintenance other than the tranny. If you get an 03 make sure it is a covered VIN number for the trans and anything purchased before this month in 02 with over 109k miles isn't covered. Acura seems to be basing the warranty on mileage moreso than the 7 year part of the warranty however, but it's still a dealership goodwill when they do..see if your can find a TL that has had it's trans replaced already as it may not be worth the headache. A lot of these cars are coming up near the end of warranty coverage.

That said my car is in the shop getting a new trans right now for free, it's three months over the 7 year time limit, but only has 66k. If the car your looking at has over or is approaching 105k make sure the timing belt and water pump get replaced, about $985 job, but always worth every penny if you want to keep it running. These cars are pretty hassle free.

Well since you know about the tranny issue already then you are good. TLs are great cars and I Love Mine. The one and only reason i am getting rid of mine next month is because i want something with dramatically more power. I am going with an 04 supercharged Cobra but the TL-S will be missed. It is fun, comfortable and it looks good and the best part about owning one is this forum. Even when i do sale the TL i will still stay a part of the AZine family.

I will have the TL til the end of next month so we can get together. We just need to figure out a time and stuff now that the weather is getting better

But then we can get a pic with 2 TL-S and a Cobra

2002 TL-S

TQ-232

COBRA- With a 2.8 pulley, exhaust and a tune you can be pushing around 500 HP around 450-480 at wheels for less than 1100 bux.

TL-S- with 1100 bux you can have exhaust and plenums and xs headers and be pushing 300 give or take a few and about 260-275 at the wheels

How exactly am i downgrading?

id rather have a 04 cobra over a TL-s anyday.

id then sell the cobra and build a FD3S, haha...i cant stand the way american cars feel and drive.

TL's are just slightly fancier accords...people need to start realizing that.

FD3S are nice im just not into rotary engines at all. The bodies are freakin sweet but after that they lose me. Im looking forward to having torque again.

Tls are nice but my sisters 06 V6 Accord is nicer. Not bashing the TL at all because i love mine its just time to move on to a new ride.

I just bought 03 TL-S last week with nav and black leather interior. It's a beautiful ride. Check thread "Just bought 03 TL Type-S WDP last week". My buddy at work has an 06 aV6. As far as appearance, I like the acura better. I guess it's just the brand name. And many of you here probably agree that if there were two rides at the red light. One were Acura TL and one were Honda Accord. The guy in the Acura would think something like this....it's an Accord...Ya know what I mean.
I'm saying that because I also have 06 lex gs430. And everytime a toyota car pulls next to mine whether it's an Avalon or camry and EVEN lexus ES350...I just smile and say to myself....NOT the same....Just my thoughts

You should really research more before you type. Im sorry that you think an 02-03 TL-S is superior. I just threw out the obvious reasons i am upgrading.

I love my TL-S and its a great car. It is however underpowered compared to newer cars in its class. I mean seriously my sisters 2006 accord is way nicer than my TL-S.

People buy cars for alot of reasons. I wanted a mustang because I like them. That alone makes it an upgrade.

I seriously dont even know why im defending my decision to you. Ill PM you when i get it we will compare every aspect of the 2 cars from bumper to bumper and Im sorry but you will find that My Cobra will come out on top
