Thinking of ,,,,
Hi:
After reading a lot of posts here, I have decided to maybe try and replace my plugs myself. Could any of you with a lot of knowledge about this tell me what the current thought is on which plugs to get and what tools I will need and IF i should eve try something like this.
My car is a 2000 TL with navi just rolling to 100K as I write this. Running very well. Want to seafoam it and then change the plugs and get the oil changed.
I don't have many tools, no ratchet set, no plug sockets, really nothing, but I wouldn't mind buying this stuff if it is not too expensive. I don't have much experience with working under the hood, but always interested in learning.
Question is, should I bother. At 100K I believe that there is a lot of maintenance stuff that needs to be done, like the plugs and the timing belt, etc, is this not correct? How much would this stuff cost at the dealer? I live in Philly. Any suggestions on a good dealer in this area?
Anyway, thanks for your advice. I need an oil change soon so I was gonna seafoam and do all this stuff at the same time. Any advice would be really appreciated.
thanks for any advice,
Erich

First welcome.
Second, if you use the search on plugs you will find a ton of information. OEM is the NGK double platinum-best bet. Some say iridium, but the life on Iridiums is shorter 60K vs 100K and no spectacular benefit)
Seafoam away, I expect to do it to mine in the next 10K as I am at 90 K.
Timing is 105or 110K, look at your manual and do the water pump and timing at the same time since the water pump has to come out to change the timing (part only cost-good preventative) fsttyms is the resident guru on all things Acura auto, esp 2nd gen.
Good luck and again, welcome

Thanks for the quick reply.
Any recs on oil type and filter type? If I go the dealer route, should I just use Acura parts or can I buy my stuff and ask them tin install it?
I am assuming I can save at least all the labor if I do the plugs myself. I would do the oil, but i think the lube places can do it as cheap and I don;t have a jack or the inclination to get under the car in the cold weather!
Thanks again any advice. This places rocks. Wish i had found it sooner.
