Is there a recall for power steering rack?
Is there a recall for power steering rack?
Dam,I thought I got a acura/honda so I wouldn't have to worry about major repair bills.Changing out my transmission fluid this weekend and saw that one of my boots near the drivers side leaking(now I know why my power steering fluid keeps getting low)my question is that did acura have a recall on this?Man I know this is gonna hurt if they didn't cause I believe the steering rack will need to be changed,or if some knows otherwise(maybe just changing the boot)

Hello, my 02 TL-S has power steering rack replaceed about 3 months ago.
My car was about 59K mils at that time when the leak was found. The shop I
took to asked me to try dealer to see if they are willing to do goodwill warranty to replace the whole rack. Then
I took to Pleasanton Acura and they confirmed that steering rack needed to
be replaced. They said I need to pay for labor of $800 and factory would
pay for the new rack (about $1K or so). At the end, I didn't pay for anything
(I guess someone messed up the paper work. They tried to get me to pay
couple times, but they never send me the new paperwork. I guess they
got reimbursed by factory already.)
Yes I think some steering racks do have defect/issue.. Try to take it to
your dealer if your car's warranty hasn't expired or try for goodwill warranty..
Now my car has about 65K mi and tranmission 2nd - 3rd gear is shifting really
rough and gas mileage drops a lot... I guess it is about to let go... losing
confidence on Honda/Acura products now after being Honda owners for last
15 yrs.
Hope it helps,
