Are there any long-term problems when using 87 gas?
My 2000 TL has 100K and it's pure commuter car now so I care less about performance. I am thinking to start using 87 gas and I am wondering if it could make any long-term negative impact. I hope to get another 100K or so out of it.
one thing to experiment is with your MPG, you might get less with 87. See if its worth the savings.
but raj- I just read in another thread where your cars get vastly different mileage on different gas octane?
So it is a problem- your ears will never hear the knocking- if you do its disaster tme inside the engine
Its more than just the compression that determines the TLs need for octane
It never hurts to do a fuel system and combustion chamber cleaning- especially if you have been running 87-89
Seafoam is popular with the DIY crowd ~$20 materials- or spend $150 and let a shop do a less complete job than our DIY results in!

yea that do get diff gas mileages, if i put 93 or 89 in the tl-p it get the same mileage. i still have to do the whole sea foam to the tl-p and sea foam in the oil in the tl-s.

Why do people buy nice cars but then want to skimp on upkeep?? Acura didn't put "premium only" on there just because.
You will get worse mileage and you are slowly damaging your engine with low grade. Either use whats recomended or buy an Accord
Its unbeleiveable how many threads like this pop up..

I highly doubt that there would be a long term damage to the engine from the continuous use of 87 octane. The only thing you got to watch out if you floor it, this might cause some knock which can damage your engine. But if you drive normally, don't tow a trailer or anything, this should be OK. Honda engine can take so much abuse, that this is nothing....
With that being said, I still use 91+ on my ride. I like the extra power it gives.
