Theft Alert

I'm starting to get word of people steeling cats while we're parked, either over night and/or at work.

With the price of platinum at record highs, thieves are finding it lucrative to jack up the front of cars and cutout your cat; which contain a small amount of platinum. Of course this is no small job but it's starting to happen to cars in public parking spots and train stations in the US and Canada.

Be aware of it and park your car in highly visible spots. It's initially started with SUV's which are easier because they don't need to be jacked up, but is quickly moving to other cars.

Your cat might cost 600-1000 to be replaced and will be covered under insurance if you properly report it.

i have actually seen this.
well.. not seen it happen but saw a dude with... well.. no cat. lol

this is the day of getting the ATLP non-working prototype made.

so im chilling outside watching the owner of Stromung do his stuff on my car..

all of a sudden, i hear this LOUD ass car come and i look and its a Toyota Previa ( ) van..

im like.. wow.. that thing gots an exhaust.....

owner of the van parks his car and frantically goes to the owner of the shop and tries to explain the situation but can't because he can't speak english too well.

owner of the shop tells the owner of van to pull up to the lift and van goes up on lift..

i look and i see..

header downpipe... first o2 sensor.. and nothing.. a wire thats been cut and a pipe for the exhaust.

thieves cut the pipe RIGHT after the primary o2 sensor and right after the catalytic convertor and then snipped the wires on the secondary o2 sensor..

i'd like to see these thieves get to mine and see that mines gutted...

oh man.. the look on their faces after doing all that hard work..

well then again.. won't be so fun..

I've heard about this recently as well. There are plenty of SUVs that are easier to get to then my TL around here so hopefully they would pass it by for an easier target. Looks like I'll have to get those Teins sooner that I want.

I was at the honda dealership this past weekend and found out about this issue through small talk. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. All the damage for only a few ounces of platinum. My car is slammed, but that is no reassurance.

the worst part is the scrap yard gives them 50 to 75 dollars for your several hundred dollar cat!
The modern age of battery powered tools and hi tech teeth cutting saws- has made this a 15 second removal for a skilled thief
Floor jacks take time and make noise and are heavy to carry
- they will go for all the easy targets first

Use your normal safety procedures when parking, get an aftermarket alarm and make sure what your insurance covers-- with how much $ out of your pocket

the thing i wish could get a chance to do is what my cousin did. About a year ago he said when he was going to work around 4am he seen someone under his tacoma. He ran up to the dude who had no idea since he was busy under the truck and got him in the balls. Guy reacted and hit his head so hard my cousin told me it was too funny just listening to him. The guy wont steal anymore cats once outta jail .

Yea times are rough when people will do that. At least you don't live in Detroit where they are stealing manhole covers to melt down and sell for scrap.
