Texas inspection failure

I bought my '01 TL in Oklahoma and recently moved to Texas where my little Acura failed inspection. It said the Evap, O2, and 2 other things were in the Not Ready status.

The dude that did my inspection said that the computer in the car was not connecting to the inspection properly and that I need to take it to the dealership.

Has this happened to anyone else? Just checking before I throw down a couple hundred to have something fixed that maybe I can do myself.

Thanks!

did you recently disconnect the battery? If so you just need to drive for about 60 miles for the sensors to calibrate.

I bought my 03 TLS just over a year ago and had it inspected recently for the first time. The guy running the inspection couldn't get his computer to synch with the plug under my dash for some reason, apparently tried it twice. He called me to the bay to show me and this 3rd time it happened to work properly. It may just be his machine.

Never heard of the dealer having to do this. Maybe the guy you went to didn't really know what he was doing, or have the right equipment.

Also, if there are some emission problems, you can add some RXP to your gas and run through a tank. Then have it retested. This stuff is really good.

I'm in Houston. I have had my car checked 3 times now (twice by this guy and once by someone else) and have driven 30, 50, and 90 miles in between checks.

The second guy is saying my car is not connecting to the computer they are using for the inspection. The 3 times he hooked up the inspection cable to my car, it spit out the same 4 things that are "not ready" even after I put some miles on it.

I hate to take my car to the dealer because I know it's gonna be something small to replace that will end up being really expensive.

Thanks for the posts.

I fail Ga inspection 3 month ago then had to drive TL for week or until i put over 150 miles. You can just go to local auto store an ask them to hookup OBDII scanner to your TL. If they can read a codes that mean your TL is NOW ready for inspection

Id bring it somewhere free like autozone to have them connect their OBD2 system to the car. If it connects and reads properly its the inspection place that did somethign wrong.

Those are called readiness codes and they are self tests that the computer runs to check all the emissions systems. When the tests have not been completed the read "not ready". They are reset when the pcm is reset, disconnected or loses battery power. The car just needs to be driven normally for a couple weeks to alow those those tests to complete. Some complete within 5 minutes some take multiple drive cycles. If your check engine light comes on that means one of those tests failed.
