Test driving alone
#3
My salesman was really cool. He gave me a TL and told me to drive it as long as I wanted. (I never returned it...LOL). Went there a few weeks ago to check out the MDX and he did the same thing, they just wanted a copy of you Drivers License.

The Acura salesperson let me drive alone, he just asked me not to put too much miles on it. On the other hand, when I went to the Lexus dealer to test drive the IS300, the sales person was a stuck up ass. Not sure what his problem was but he thought I couldnt afford it or something. Anyhow, I didn't like the car and ended up buying my TL.

There were four of us out during lunch and the Acura guy took a copy of my driver's license. All four of us went for a long test ride. It was fun. I went back for two other test drives and the same sales guy just tossed me a set of keys and said see you later. I ended buying my car from him.

I had the sales guys in the car every time I test drove A TL... but the funny thing is one of those guys was telling me himself to punch it and abuse the car...
The two deales who let me drive their cars on my own were the VW and Dodge...
I had the same thing happening to me... they are stock up morons. I drove up in an old Mazda and was wearing my old jeans and a t-shirt... and they barely noticed me... same day I went to Acura and was treated great.

Just my 2 cents...

Drove it with my wife without rep. He just tossed me the keys and said I trust you. I brought the car back with the plastic peeled back off the hood and the brakes red hot. Bought another TL a few months later.

Well my test drive was over two years ago when the car was first redesigned.I ended up getting the 2000 model last year but 2yrs ago when first shipment came in dealer let me have it about 40min by myself.I had talked to him on the phone & he called me when they came in.The saleman was on the phone with someone so he told another salesman to get the keys to the car &let me take it out.He made a copy of my permit & gave me the keys.

Both. I drove it twice with a salesman, while doing my early research shopping. My wife and I (with daughter in tow) drove it without a salesman right before we bought it.
I much prefer solo drives (my local BMW dealer let me drive a 323i, 328i, and 528i back-to-back for over 30 minutes each. Age has its advantages!)

Drove the 2001 CL by my self. The first day the came out. The guy at the dealership just tossed me the keys. No copy of my liscense or anything. Although, I did leave my Accord right out front.
I want to do it again but I am afraid the guy will hop in the car with me. Any suggestion in getting another "salesman free" test drive?

Check this out. I went to the Ford dealership after setting up a meeting over email. I pulled up in a POS '83 Buick Skyhawk. They gave me the keys to a 2000 Mustang GT and said "take your time" without me signing a thing or even showing my driver's license! It was a stick and they didn't even ask if I knew how to drive it. It was pretty damn fun, powerful car.

Hey, a Car dealship in Calgary, Canada (Henniger Toyota) used to offer a 24 hour test drive. They would give you the car for the whole day so you could make sure that it was the right car for you. Now how is that for service!!!

My rep. simply passed over the keys and said come back when your ready. A month later he did the same with a new CLs. The result: sold both to Pops and me and my brother is now lining up an MDX. The rep. can make all the difference.
Great experience at Acura East!

I had good experience with both Acura and Lexus in test driving.
My Acura sales allowed me to drive both the TL and CL. And even asked me to abuse the car. I took their only new CL-Type S onto 20 miles run on 280. It was cool. I ended up bought TL from him the same day (using carsdirect.com pricing). He even ended up throwing a lot of freebies.
Lexus of Fremont (Magnussen) is excellent too. I test drove the IS300 twice (one by myself, the other with my wife). Even though I did not buy the car from him (I wanted yellow and they do not have 1). But they are extremely easy to deal with.

I was 17 when i first got my TL (i had the 3rd blue one in Florida) and the first dealership that i went to the salesperson told me that it was too expensive for me and told me to look at Integras. So i went to another dealership about 45 mins. away and put in my order. The guy at the new dealership rode with me but actually encouraged me to redline it. On the test drive I got up to over 100MPH!!! when i got my car i went back to the 1st dealership and got my oil changed. that was a wonderful moment.
