Changed my belt tensioner today and my clicking is gone. ( see my post in this meesage) but I noticed a whine from the power steering pump but it was internittent. Can you tell me which line is the return or point to it in a picture. I am going to bleed my power steering soon and figure I can change the o ring then too.

Thanks

At the bottom of the reservoir is a thicker tube that connects back up to the ps pump on the right side. There is a little screw underneath holding the connector onto the pump. Take the screw out (10mm) and then remove the o-ring. Place the new o-ring on the connector and insert back into the ps pump and replace screw. You may want to remove the return pump tubing from the connector but make sure you have a rag underneath or your belts will be covered with fluid. Also it was easier for me to remove the wiring harness clips that's are near the ps pump. Of course grap some more ps fluid as you'll most likely loose a little in the process. Good luck.

I was moving that very same hose a lot unintentionally when changing my side mount so I think that is what the noise is. I will try to change the O ring when I flush the system. I get light condensation and dirt accumulation from ps oil so it must have a very slight leak. Thanks for your help.

Unhappy I think I have similar but different problem...

Thanks for great write up and explanations.

Here's my problem: My 03 TL idles and runs fine without AC/heater on but once AC/heater is on, it sometimes lowers RPM to ~600 and when it does that it makes the tensioner to act up resulting in rumbling sound (I'm guessing the sound is resulted from tensioner hitting each end back and forth). So I was guessing it would be the idler pulley or the tensioner or the AC compressor.

But since this happens both when either AC or Heater is on, this might not be the AC compressor because AC compressor only works when AC is on, right? So far, I've replaced the alternator (At first, I thought it was alternator since CEL and TCS light went up) checked idler pulley (idler pulley spins very smoothly and w/o any noise), and I also checked tensioner and it seems to have enough strength to hold the belt tension. Does anyone have any idea which might be faulty part?

Kinda off the track here but replacing the alternator fixed my remote cd/radio switches (channel/vol up and down); the remote didn't work well before with old alternator.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/enlightment ^^

Without hearing it in person its hard to say. Its highly possible its the tensioner. You can pick up a automotive stethoscope for about 20 bucks and use it to narrow it down.

noisy compressor, No ac, wobbling of the compressor pulley

Does your problem ONLY happen when the AC is on? (ac can be on with the heat) like if you push the AC button so that its off do you still have teh sound

fsttyms1, I haven't tried that with the manual climate control AC off, yet.
I'll let u know tomorrow. BTW, when AC is on, it's not noisy at all except for the rumbling sound time to time.

Thanks!

And thats probably when the compressor engages and causes more stress on it.

I guess you are right. After the inspection on the tensioner and pulley, I've WD-40ed the pulley, and it no longer makes that rumbling sound.

It seems like the pulley and tensioner is faulty. I guess I'll prolly fix the tensioner assambly when it makes the noise again.

Thanks, bro!

If I only wanted to replace the pulley itself, is the bolt that holds it on standard or left-hand thread?

OK, Ok, a confession: I'm working on my mom's Odyssey, and I think that the noise I hear upon start-up is just a tensioner bearing that is getting dry. So just for my info, do you know if it would be RH or LH thread?

Get a mechanics stethascope for 5-10 bucks and know for sure where most any noise comes from

Bearing dry at startup only, huh?

After all this time and searching, I think I've finally found the answer to my squeaking/rumbling sound when my a/c compressor kicks on. I figured it was either the idler pulley or tensioner pulley. I'm assuming this can easily be done when I'm getting the timing belt done? I figure I can save on labor if he's already in there anyway. Good to know it's probably not my a/c...since it works great and this noise has been present for a year or more.

The ac tensioner/idler pulley is on the front of everything, if t-belt is being done- sure its along the path, but normal replacement does not require it.
Replace the entire assembly- its never just the round pulley part thats bad!! Its a spring based tensioner that moves a lot every minute!!

I had the same issue you are describing and replacing the tensioner pulley fixed the squeal. Now I just need to get my power steering replaced since it's now making noise.

Well, I know, in fact, that it is the tensioner pulley. I just got back from the store with some WD-40 and sprayed it directly on the pulley; started the car up and it quieted down to almost a non-existent noise. You can still hear it slightly but not near as bad.

I'll add that to the list when I get the t-belt and water pump done.
