Why not getting a rental? that way you do not need to be worried about the tranny issue and also you don't wanna put alot of milage on your car.
Just my idea though

I just came back from a 8 hr drive and no problems. I don't think you would be stuck either. You might hear bad sounds when shifting. I wouldn't let the tranny issue get to you.

I've taken the SanFrancisco-LasVegas drive about a dozen times in my 2002 TLS. Make sure you have proper fluid levels and tire pressure. Other than that, enjoy the trip. Keep in mind you'll spend 90% of the time in 5th.

exactly, unless you are doing a lot of downshifting, you really will never be in 3rd gear anyway.

is the 2G TL really that unreliable????

i mean.....theres definatly something wrong if ur questioning whether or not to take a car on a long trip because it might over heat, or the tranny might blow...or ud wear it down....

I drove 12 hours straight each way between Nebraska and Michigan back in August. The car made it just fine.

i didn't mean it as an attack

its just...for a 30k+ car......i would be pissed if these things were happening....i can understand if this happens to a shitty kia...or a shitty saturn....or a 10 year old bonneville.....but not to a 3 year old car...thats just rediculous

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!??!?! acura is so fucking gay. this is a 30k plus car and we are all wondering if the car can make a road trip. just like NFL BLITZE said....these are problems you worry about when driving a old bonneville

im gonna take my TL from SF to santa barbera this weekend....im pretty confident it will make it without exploding on me and leaving me stranded on the road, just like all those '85 preludes and 87' escorts that are laying abandoned on the median

FUCK ACURA

41510TL, this isn't Acura's problem, this is paranoia! The TLs are not unreliable cars.

I drove from DC to Toronto (8-9hr one way) and back two month ago, no problem at all. I also got great gas mileage. The TL is the best highway cruiser.

Compare to renting a car, I looked up edmunds trade-in value, putting 1000 miles on TL only drops the trade-in price for like $80, even cheaper than renting a shitty Neon for a weekend. TL is also much much more comfortalbe and safer than a rental.

paranoia is right!! even though i have had nothing wrong with the car and is really a nice car, you just cant help but have the thoughts in the back of your head.

but i decided to take my car for the trip, plus it has navi just incase i get lost. i doubt i can get a rental with navi. or do they offer cars with navi without the hefty fee

I drove from Vegas to San Antonio, back to Vegas, back to San Antonio, to Montgomery AL, back to San Antonio, to Dayton OH, to Vegas, to San Antonio this summer. Well over 10,000 miles on my car..no problems and no fear..and I was not in a place to be late for most of the destinations..

no joke. i pulled 32mpg going to ohio a year ago over a 8 hour drive. i love my car. i wouldn't hesitate to go anywhere with it. i don't let the tranny thing worry me.

I've done a NYC to Toronto 550 mile run in about 7 hours and I have made from NYC to Pittsburgh ~500 run in 9 hours no problems!! Mostly in 5th gear and got 36mpg!!!!! That was the best part. 1 Tank to Toronto or Pittsburgh, 500+ miles.

Be more worried about your ass going numb if you dont take breaks.
