Takin a Dive....

hey guys, well I just thought I would let you guys know that I am taking a big dive in that Fiberglass kit I posted about a while back the Race Appeal lip kit for the 02-03 TL I just purchased it and should be here this week I will be re-fabricating the pieces to make them more reinforced and the rear is kind of wavy so I also be working on that also but I will keep you guys posted on how its going and I know there were lots of different opinions on it especially the front lip but its an alternative to OEM and WW ill post pics up once received...

Got kit pre-fitted today here is a few pix

Kit wasn't too bad to install had to do some minor modding to the kit to make it flush with the body of the car.

And just for fun my other toy

Kind of wondering what it will look like painted. Post some pics when complete.
Dont forget it is fiberglass. It's not anything like the oem kit.

Wow. Although the pics are small, the pieces look like they fit perfectly!

You get a thumbs up for being brave and getting that kit. Can't wait for pics!

The kit ran me $375 and I will be painting and refabricating the kit my self to make it more reinforced so total will be about $500 for everything. If all goes well the kit will get painted this weekend but its like 8 degrees here in utah so it will take long for paint to cure since I will be spraying in my garage.

what exactly do you mean you reinforced the kit? i know that fiberglass is pretty easy to crack so, how did you go about doing that?

its not darker due to coats, its darker due to poor color match....it doesnt matter how many base coats you put on, coverage is coverage....its all about the color match and clear coat...just my

by adding more layers of fiberglass so its not so weak and also added a thin layer of rhinolining on the inside. So if it does happen to crack it will stay together and I can fix the cracks instead of trying to piece things together but im eventually gonna get the oem kit just wanted to try something new

actually the paint did match after I placed 3 coats of the paint on then I let it sit overnight and let it dry then how dumb I was I added another 3 coats thinking it wouldn't matter but it did which caused it to darken its all good though I'm sanding down the whole kit down again and then primer and paint process all over again

I didn't quite go the route of having exact color match just used the original color code from factory but like I said it did match perfectly before I went insane with the paint I just about started spraying everything around me haha I think it was the fumes....

haha... sounds like your ADD is as bad as mine... so how is the factory paint code going to be different from an exact match?

well when you do the color match of course it would match alot better than factory paint code. By buying factory color code paint it will be the color of paint when it first came out of the factory compared to the paint that is already on the car which has been on there under the sun and under all the weather that makes paint fade and become lighter then before in my compared to brand new paint from the factory. Hope you understand what I said haha if there is a paint pro please correct me if I am wrong

ok... I was thinking it might be something other than that that I didn't know about painting (I'm about to get my bumper painted, so I was getting worried for a sec)
