Take Off Ground Effects?? How easy?

How easy is it to take off the front & rear lip and the side skirts off of a 2nd gen TL? The reason im asking is because my bro is trading his in and I want to take them off of his and put them on mine. And secondly...do you guys think he will get a better trade in value if he keeps them on? I need to convince him to take them off!

You mean besides residue from whatever they were attached with
And any holes for mounting
And the paint color off because less sun exposure?

Other than those things dragging down the value of his car......

Is he trading at dealer or private sale?

Trading at a dealer. I was just curious. No need to be a jerkoff about it. haha. I guess I will leave them on if it will be a huge factor of his trade in value. I just thought all the holes were in the bottom of the plastic and that it didnt cover any of the stock paint. I guess i was COMPLETLY mistaken.

I think I've read before that the body kit doesn't add much to the trade-in value. And it's very easy to install/uninstall.

Thanks. I was just curious if it will be noticable if I take it off of his car. I would obviously need to repaint them but I didn't know if you would be able to notice that they were taken off unless you looked under the car at the holes.

Unless the kit somehow deeply scratched the bumper, I can't see it being too noticeable. Most of the marks left behind the kit can probably be removed with some Goof Off and/or polishing compound and/or a good wash.

you will have to put your sides on his car. There will be no holes to have to worry about

If your cars are the same colour, wouldn't it be easier to just swap the entire bumpers?

Now Now 3.2

Everyone knows WD40 is for filling holes and removing crud
Seafoam only brings harmony to your balancer

I only poised the questions of what if and would that...
didnt claim to be no stinking expert on them body kits for Acura!!!

Take your brothers car from him and he trades your car in- hows that~~

I heard that the ground effects dont affect the value at all- at least for the 3rd gens.

I think they are different colors because he said he'd have to repaint them.

There will be holes under the front bumper. But you don't really have to worry about them because they won't be able to see them.

Like everyone said above:
The kit itself is pretty easy to uninstall, 45 mins - 1 hour is usually how long i have seen it take.
it's the work afterwards that takes time. removing crud, polishing and waxing off the 'lines' from the kit-especially on the rear bumper.

but, my opinion is that it's worth it, i don't believe the kit adds that much value to your car, i would either keep the kit for yourself or sell it on the black market...

haha..ill be sure to seafoam the car after i fill up my halogen fluid for my headlights. Thanks for the input. His car is an 02 TLS and black. My car is an 03TLS and white. So i would defintely need to repaint the pieces but if it only takes 2 hours of my time to take off his kit and polish his car it is totally worth it.

Here's where I'm stuck. So basically you can get a free OEM kit that will fit, no problem. Saves you the money of buying one somewhere else, but...

is the cost of painting the standard lip kit(your car) from white to black, and the OEM optional kit (his car) black to white cheaper or more expensive than you piecing a kit together and having only it painted? It should be cheaper by switching, but sometimes bodyshops can be whores

I have no idea. I dont even know how these things go together. I was under the impression that all 4 pieces just bolt onto the stock bumpers and sides. Am I wrong? I am assuming that painting something black will be expensive..but who knows. The situation is my brother is trading his car in and I want his lip kit and didnt know how difficult it would be to just unbolt his body kit.

While the front and rear lips simply add on to the front and rear bumper, the kit side skirts replace the stock ones. Meaning when you take his kit sides off you will have to replace them with your stock side skirts. So you would have to get your stock sides painted black to match his car. Or you could hopefully find a set of NBP stock sides.

If you have some time before he trades it in, look around and try to find stock NBP side skirts. Go to junkyards or where ever to try to find them.
