Taillight Question

My friend and I were swapping taillights today (he drives an 02 TL and I drive a 00 TL). I understood from the start that I would need to tape the excess space the 02 taillights leave in my car, so that wasn't a problem to me.

The problem came when he went to put my 00 taillights in his 02. We initially tried to exchange wiring harnesses to the lights (that didn't work). Next, the light bulb didn't fit and we thought we could just swap the bulbs from one taillight to the other. The bulbs that went to my 00 taillights had a square base, while his bulbs had a circular base.

Does anyone know what type of bulbs we both have to buy to make it so we have the correct bases to the bulbs to fit our cars.

excess space?

the lights are designed exactly the same. they should fit just as your '00 lights do.

When I put my bulbs into the back of the light, they don't twist and lock. They fit loose and I was told to use electrical tape to stop them from moving.

I didn't have that problem when I swapped my tails. I switched the wiring and that was about it. I have a 99 with 02-03 tails.

Yeah, the problem doesn't come when I put the 02 taillights in my 00. It's when my friend puts my 00 taillights into his 02, the turn signal light is the only one that doesn't fit into the housing (because it's a bigger bulb)

Another question.. when you put the 02-03 taillights in your 99, did you have to buy an amber turn signal bulb?
