Symptom of tranny failure?

So I was driving back from work and I was racing with my co-worker's TSX. I was driving in SS on 3rd gear. I let go of the gas so slow down to around 100km (60m/h) which then I downshifted to 2nd and floored it! I then tried to shift back into 3rd, but I wasn't able to!!! It's like I was stuck in 2nd gear!!! I tried putting it back onto D5 and accelerate, but it would just stay at redline and didn't want to shift!

I put it back into SS and tried to shift to 3rd, nothing, stayed in 2nd, so I let go the gas, and re-accelerate hoping I would be able to shift it into 3rd. Nope, didn't work, so I put it back into D5, let go of the gas. 2-3 seconds later, it shifted into 3rd gear, then 4th by itself. Put it back into SS and everything looks like it's back to normal...

Is this a sign of a tranny failure? I drive an 02 TLS by the way... Thanks!
