Subs and Rattle

Anyone else out there with subs and your trunk rattles hard? Did dynamatting the trunk solve the problem, or should i dynamat more?

my shit rattles like a mother. it's so nasty. it's dynomatted, but it's probably because my subs are located where the donut used to be (3 subs, 1 inverted)

mine used to rattle like a monster but i've noticed its gone down some after i put in my spoiler....i guess its just the added weight on the lid......you should try at to move the latch down a bit its suppose to help out alot then dynamat....if it still rattles like crazy....

Maybe try spraying some Great Stuff inside the trunk lid.

I have the same problem. Done the whole dynamat thing, didn't help. Good luck. Let us know if you come up with something. I even have a big wood panel wrapped in vinyl on the inside of the decklid and that didin't help either.

feel around for the spots its coming from. my old car had it bad. its going to be something vibrating against the body just throw some sort of insulation of dynamat inbetween watever it is. thats all u got to do is find the main spot.

are you aware of you not having in your Spare tire that your compromizing your cars structure, because these cars frames are built in minde that the spare tire is always in. It reanforces the frame. With out your spare if you get rear ended the back with just crumble.

I have to disagree with you. I don't have a spare either and I've been rear ended. No crumbling whatsoever. And I was hit by a ford pick up truck. Had to replace the bumper and the trunk. So if you have no spare it doesn't make a difference.

lippstuh you might want to look around that area for bolts or any parts near the spare under the car. on my old car it was a rear windshield washer pump on the side. so for you it could be whatever down in that area.

my trunk is dynomatted and still rattles... the trunk lid is dynomatted and has the filler in it too... still no luck... a big portion of the rattling is coming from what i think is behind the rear bumper... may take that apart and put some suond deadening there too...

try moving the latch down some. it will tighten the grip of the trunk giving the affect of someone pushing down on it which helps deaden vibration a lot. if that dont work than somethings loose.

when i press down on the trunk the rattlening isnt so loud, so maybe it might be the edge of the trunk where it meets the top of the bumper. mabe cushioning that part might help.. also people told me it could be inside the trunk that rattles. for the license plate u can get double sided tape and it should stick fine.

Look inside your trunk, where the Trunk lid connects to the latch. Remove the piece of rubber on the C bracket and there are some bolts. Loosen them, move the C Bracket down, and retigheten. It will make your trunk lid a lot tighter with the body and drastically reduce rattle. Only problem is the more you lower the C bracket, the harder you have to shut your trunk to make the latch grab.

Hope that helps

Where the trunk meets the bumper is exactly where mine rattles. CJITTY pushed that part in on my tunk and the rattling went away.

i did 2 layers of dynomat extreme and it helped a little but it still rattles. it is worth getting i would say because it makes the subs sound cleaner inside the car when you are driving. subs are always going to make your trunk rattle no matter wut so deal with it and love the bass.

Rattling is probably inevitable, more power = more rattle? :P I had a VW insulated and my box still had my plate/trunk and even doors rattle. I got kinda used to the rattle, kinda made all of my seats tremble (Baby Massage Chair ) It Also helped out with some back problems LMAO!! jk... but I dunno what to tell you if you got it d-matted and it still doesnt stay still.. Best of luck to ya piamp. Like I said its pretty much inevitable..

Not trying a hijack here, but it could be relevant to some of us.

Do you think an 300w x 1 RMS amp (bridged) pushing a single 12" sub in a sealed hatchback style box made by Q-Logic would cause me rattle issues?

thats where mine rattles the most as well.......what causes it is the air being forced out of the trunk by the subs.....if you put a thicker seal around the tunk it should help......i've seen it done on other cars never on a tl......

Thanks man, I figured it would be ok. My goal is to fill the car with some nice bass, but not trying to be "heard" up and down the block. I was never into earth shattering bass that rattle bolts loose. I plan on tightening down all the bolts I can just to make sure.

Update..sub installed and cranked it up...no rattles to report!!!! I think a single sub in sealed box was a good call for me. I tried to get the trunk to rattle but couldn't. I would never listen to as much bass as my test, so I think I am good to go!

I have a stock spoiler which rattles like no other with two 12" subs in a sealed box. i can squeeze the spoiler together vertically which will keep it from rattling but something under the backside of my car is a second culprit.

I'm lazy so i probably wont be looking into the issue for a while or if im really bored. I may try to take apart the spoiler and see if i can fill it with some foam or something similar to see if that helps.
