stuck in 2nd gear
stuck in 2nd gear
this has happened to me twice (maybe 3 times). i have an '02 TL-S with 46,000 miles. flooring the car in SS... auto shift 1-2, then when i upshift before redline, the car stays in 2nd gear. will not shift. put it into auto, still won't shift. this lasts for a few seconds, so i'm going like 60 and engine braking in 2nd gear the whole time.
has this happened to anyone?
maybe time for my fourth tranny?

I've been having the same thing happen for quite some time now. This only happens when I'm in SS and "gunning" it. Past VTEC, the car won't shift into 3rd and I have to press the shifter twice before it shifts. It's your tranny
Are you lifting your foot off the gas when you go to shift from 2-3? If so, that's the transmission's Grade Logic holding 2nd gear. It's designed like that. Same thing with waiting a few seconds in auto, after you let off the gas. The purpose is to hold the gear, even near redline, if you're running the twisties.
Now, if your bouncing the thing off the rev limiter for 10 seconds, and it just won't shift, no matter what- that's different, and a problem.
But, what you've described sounds normal to me, particularly if you are lifting your foot.

Since day one whenever I shift using SS I always let off the gas. (kinda like shifting in a manual trans) But only for a split second. When done right it works great. But I have never experinced anytime the car refusing to go into the next gear. (unless of course you are too slow/fast for that gear). and yes I've done this at redline as well. (if you time it right you can get the most of the upper rpms before hitting the rev limiter
