A Strange Problem??
Has anyone ever had problems hearing static when playing a CD? This started happening after prolonged use of the CD Player (about 5 hours). It seemed to get worse the further into the CD I got. It's a 99 TL.

It's not the CD b/c it happens on any CD. It's possible that it could be the cellphone, but I have had it near the stereo before with no problems. The strange thing is that it seems to come and go, but the longer that I listen to the CD player, the greater the chances that it will have static. Its like it begins to overheat or something. I was just wondering if anyone had ever had the problem, but I guess not. It's not something that I am too concerned about since I am usually not listneing to it for that length of time.

I had the same sort of thing happened to me on a long trip. It was like the CD was skipping. When I took the CD out it was rather warm so I stopped using the CD player for a about ten minutes put the same CD back in and it was fine.

I had similar problem long time ago. After driving for several hours, I found that for one special song on my CD (almost the last song on the CD) got static. It sounds like it keeps repeating the same sound again and again. Initially I thought it was my CD, but when I played it at home, the CD is fine. So far, I haven't driven for long hours, so the problem never come out. Keep my finger cross, the problem won't happen again. :p

Just wanted to let everyone know how this ended up. I had to take it into the dealer to have the stereo repaired. It got to the point where it would not even play CDs. I do have alot of burned CDs, but I can't see how this would have caused the problem.

I have had similar experiences with burned CDs where it would take quite a while for the song to be located and eventually would't play my burned CDs at all. I haven't pinpointed the problem yet, but have it down to a couple of theories:
1. Brand of blank CD...for some reason, it seems to make a difference.
2. CD player getting hot. I had it playing for a few hours straight.
3. Burrs from the burned CDs. The owner's manual suggests rubbing the inner and outer edges of a burned CD with a pencil to remove any burrs that might affect the laser.
I fixed the problem by buying a CD laser lens cleaner from Radio Shack and haven't had the problem since, although it still takes a variable amount of time for the player to locate songs on burned CDs.

I did not mention that I play burned CDs to the dealer. Didn't want to give the any reasons to void my warranty.
At first, I thought it might be related to the burned CDs, but it did not even play a brand new CD by the time I took it in. I do think that playing the CD player for long periods of time did contribute to the problem.
That is a good tip on smoothing the edges, I take a look at that in the future.
