STP Fuel injector treatment
I've been reading around about adding fuel injector treatments to your gas tank. I was wondering which ones you guys have had good/bad experience with. I put in a bottle of redline about 2000 miles ago, and was wondering if it would be safe to add a bottle of STP in the tank. If so, which one do you guys use? do you use the one that should be added everytime your fill up your tank, or the super concentrated one, only needed every oil change???
let me know
thanks guys.

I just grabbed some STP from ESSO last time before the Woodbine meet. It says on bottle to do it every oil change. Thus far I don't see much difference. Gas milage seems a bit better and the engine a bit more responsive. But I don't feel any big difference at all. I'd say even if it doesn't seem to improve much, it can't do any harm to add a bottle onces every few months just to clean things up

I post on this before but I use STP Complete Fuel System and it works great. Just put it in every 4 to 5k miles and done.
I just put one on mine right at 6k and so far so good, the RPM is nice and stable. I recommended.

One main thing I have been complaining about lately was my car experienced rough idling. I assumed that the redline fuel injector treatment would cure this problem, however it didn't. I was browsing the STP website, and under the troubleshooting section, it mentions a couple problems that generally people will come across during the life of their car. One of them happened to be rough idling. Now it recommends to put the fuel system cleaner in, which is the black bottle that Tatewaki recommended, however I was more interested in getting something that will do all, including increase performance (a tiny bit), clean all chambers, fuel system, intake valve and such, as well as cure my rough idling. Therefore I was stepping towards the Complete Fuel System maintenance which maxx96 mentioned he uses, but now I'm wondering if I should try and cure the rough idling and add the Black bottle of STP.
all this info can be found at www.stp.com, and I appreciate any advice you give me.
thanks guys, this is the best forum!!!

Well I've been told on this board from many members that there's 2 reputable companies for fuel injector cleaners. STP, Redline and Valvoline. I'm not too sure though if anyone has ever used their product.

I used a Gumout product awhile back. I forget what the name was, but it was a complete system cleaner. Came in a clear bottle with a yellow label. It seemed to have done the trick, I've noticed a gain in milage.

yah tonight my mom came up to me and was complaining that her Ford Windstar (A total POS) is experiencing rough idling, crappy gas mileage (well it's about the size of a f*cking tank), and overall her engine performance is totally ****. I threw in some complete fuel injector cleaner by STP (black bottle), and we'll see if that helps the problem at all. She asked me what I thought it was, and I simply said, it don't matter, that car will soon be Found On the Road Dead (hence the first letter of every word spells out FORD)

This is what started me using the STP Complete Fuel System; back in '96 I was looking for a product that not only works but that it was safe for use. I did some research and the only product that came recommended by Consumer Reports was the STP. Now this guys are hard to convince as far as this kind of products because most or almost all of them don't work, but this STP work and I use it for 7 1/2 years on my Maxima and never failed, never have to clean the injectors or nothing. This was my experience and I started using it in my TLS and so far so good and will continue to do so. Just my opinion.

yah I figured that STP was a pretty reputable company, and therefore decided to use that in my TL-S. I also threw in a bottle of STP in my van (yes you can all laugh now). A POS Windstar....man do they ever suck.

groebuck1: NO, every 4 to 5K miles and not any earlier than that. Mine just went over 6K and I put it right at 6K and will continue to do so from now on every 6K.
By the way the bottle is the GREY one not the black one ok.

oh ok, I bought the black bottle only to see if I can cure the rough idling problem. However from now on after 6000 km I will put in the clear or grey bottle. In any event, the bottle's and STP website all say that their products are safe to mix. Therefore it shouldn't harm the vehicle if I put the silver bottle in.

Yes Jeff, but you already put one in so you have to wait I say no less than 3k miles before you put the Grey bottle in just to be on the safe side. Later.

yah I put the redline fuel injector cleaner in about 3000 km's ago. I figure I'll wait until my next oil change in like 2 months to put the STP in the tank. In the meantime, I'll maintain the car.
Thanks Jose.

Good point Dee Diddy. Unless a vehicle is really, really old probably doesnt need these treatments. Your right about the FTC and the deceptive advertising by the marketers of these additives, I came across a lot of information regarding the trouble that these marketers are in for FALSE advertising. Using a proven quality synthetic motor oil and quality oil filter should suffice for newer vehicles.
