Bump an old thread but Bosch is recently bought by Purolator and apparently changed the design from Champion Labs. That is a good news because Purolator design addresses the bypass valve concern shown in the study posted above.
The Bosch Premium outside looks like a copy of Purolator Pure One. Silicon anti-drain back valve, and square holes instead of round ones etc...

Is there any rule in this forum that forbid member to talk about filter?
Just because some do not want to discuss it does not mean all members do not.

I've grown immune to the influence of these "backyard oil filter studies." They provide little or no accurate information reflecting the true performance of oil filters.

Some filters will contain less media than others, but will still "meet" the OEM requirements through the usage of more advanced media.

All filters will meet/exceed OEM specifications, but some will barely meet it and others will far surpass it.

The oil filter serves less purpose than some people may try to tell you, especially after the initial wear-in period. Air Filter is equally, if not arguably more important.

I use the cheapest oil and filters in my cars.

good oil filters will help filter debri from getting into your crankcase and eventually turning into sludge. the high media capacity of a filter the better IMO. I use Mobil 1, K&N or Puralator filters only. FRAM, stp and motorcraft are all sub-prime, IMO.

Those oil filter studies provide information and it is up to the owner to decide what he wants. For example, there are discussions on oil restriction from Puralator PureOne, which has one of the best filtering effeciency but packed the largest media. I did not believe it until I saw ridges (those you can grab during installation/removal) swell to a rounded shape like the rest of the can when I did my oil change.
FYI, Kragen has a online buy-one-get-one free coupon for Bosch until 10/14/06, you can test the filter out with a little more than $3 per filter.
