Stone headers installed!
Well I have been wanting some headers for a while now. I have also been getting bored with my car. Money is an object so I have been waiting for a good deal...I got one for sure. I got the Stone headers (used) off ebay for $250 shipped! installation cost $150 so for $400 I got a good set of headers installed.
After driving for a few hours, I couldnt be more happy. I know it wont make my car a rocket, but there is a very noticable difference in acceleration at all speeds. The car has more of a "whoosh" sound when I start up also - from the lack of intake resonator. I bet it will be even better when I get an intake!
There is a slight resonance around 2K RPM's but I can only hear it when I accelerate from a complete stop, with the radio off and windows up. Even then, its barely noticable. So to all, this is a very good mod and possible to do without spending lots of money.

I am bumping this to check on the headers. Ou Sig any complaints. I like the look of the chrome on those stone headers. Can you describe in more detail the resonance you hear at 2k. is it worse? I want headers, but I want to keep a quiet cabin.

I think I was the only one to ever notice, because I am anal!
glad the headers worked out for you.
i want to do this.
just very afraid.

My Stone headers should be arriving today. I am hoping to get them installed tomorrow. I'll keep you guys updated. As for where I bought mine, I got them from SSAUTOCHROME on Ebay. He has a website as well, www.ssautochrome.com. They are cheaper on ebay though. If it all works out well, I'll let you guys know.

The problem with some of these brands isn't necessarily that the first batch was bad and all the future batches are good ... The problem with some has been quality control. OBX in particular is notorius for having the O2 sensor bung placed in the wrong location so the O2 sensor ends up not fitting or touching the oil pan which is very bad. Fitment also seems to be a problem with some headers not lining up properly to the A-pipe.
I'm sure there are good ones out there but in terms of quality control, none have been as consistent as Comptech. If you're buying used headers that already fit on someone else's car, chances are you'll have success with them like ou sig. But for new ones, there's a chance that they won't fit ... And if you're having someone install them for you, it could be an expensive problem considering you might have to pay someone to install the Stone/OBX/Alpha Werks/Megan headers then re-install the OEM exhaust manifold, then install a 2nd set of aftermarket headers.
Just my ... Hopefully everyone has good luck with theirs. I had Stone headers from the first and second batch and neither set fit properly. In the end, I wasted my money on installation costs three times, and ended with used Comptech headers. For all the money I wasted testing and trying, I could have bought new Comptech headers and saved myself a lot of headache.

Very true, I did buy a used set so I knew they fit fine. But, just like our tranny problems...you really only hear about the problems on this site and not all the people who are happy. Point is - headers are a must for our engine.

Well....then spend $1100 on some Comptechs...I did hear that the last batch of Stone headers (mine) had 95% of the problems taken care of. So if they have another batch, they should be all good.
