WHY?

you gotta give your car a day or two to get adjusted to the mod...we got smart ECU'd cars.

Wait 3 days. On the third day leave home in a diaper and drive the hell out of it! Beware of the torque-steer though.

Why not disconnect the batter during the install??? Always seemed to work for me...

that will speed the learning process up alot, but you will still need to drive it in all types of situations so the ECU will get a good idea of what it is working with.

I reset the ECU for half an hour after installing my OBX SS headers, then drove it like a maniac. The power increase was noticeable right away.

As for the pulleys, I'm installing mine this weekend, but the majority of the people with the UR pulleys said that it will take a few days. Nonetheless, I'm going to reset the ECU and see if it will pick up right away.

Seven and a half weeks so far without my car. I'm going crazy.

Torque steer on my car is really strong now that my headers are on.... damn the f'ing resonance tho! Hopefully a replacement downpipe will help things.

I also had some resonance, but I retorqued the bolts, and most of it went away. Cant really tell where it is coming from, but it only happens when I accelerate in 3rd gear slowly and right at 2400 rpm, then it quickly goes away...overall, not a problem at all

Followup...

So install took about two hours. Nothing special on the drive home. Immediately reset the ECU (battery disco for 15 min) and could immediately feel the difference. It's not possible to actually have my head whip back (SS and keep it in 2 ~5k rpm and hit the gas).

I can't wait to see how it settles in.

As to install, tech said fitment was perfect, O2 sensor and all. He suggested I bring it back in a week and he'll retorque the bolts.

And now, not to be a dumb ass, but what is "torque steer"?

Thanks!!!

Joe

Torque steer happens with front wheel drive cars...when you punch it from a stand still and the steering wheel pulls you. it is bad in a front wheel car because there isnt a "drive shaft" or differential to absorb that torque so you feel it in the wheel pull. it is from the power of the engine...watch 18 wheelers when the start, the whole damn cab jerks - from the massive amounts of torque in the engine.

Torque steer is caused by two different lengths of front drive axles. Most front drive race cars have equal length axles (major pain in the ass to do).

The car will adjust fine. The gains are easily noticable and make a huge difference in the higher rpm range...

As far as the pulley, the big difference for me was the 1/2 shift...Before install, the car tended to drop off lower into the power band but now, it's as if the revs stay higher allowing the engine to stay in the sweet spot on full acceleration...

Either way, you can't go wrong!

One more Q...

Can someone describe what the "resonance" sounds like? I'm experiencing a sound about 2k rpms when I'm accelerating that sounds like a high pitched whistle almost. Is that resonance or is it something else?

It's notiable, but not horrible.

Thanks,

Joe

Prolly an exhaust leak. Whistleing sound usually indicate a leak.

I'm having the bolts retorqued early next week. Hopefully that should sort it out.

Thanks,

Joe

resonance will be a slight vibration, you will feel it in your gas petal and if you radio is off, you may hear is in the cabin. It happend to me at abotu 2400 rpm - exactly, it went right away once I got past that.
