stock sub

ok so im leaving for florida tomorrow early am and i start getting the car ready. so first order of buisness is the stereo. i recently put a aftermarket headunit in (a must for the TL owner) and by doing so lost the factory sub. so i put my own in ( a orion 10") well i needed the extra trunk space so i had to pull it out. so i started monkeying around and hooked my amp (infinity kappa 102a 100x2 or 300x1) to the factory sub for grins to see how it would sound. i didnt want to drive 20 hours with just the factory door speakers. well i turned the gain all the way down set the crossover point to 60hz and man that thing sounds a ton better than stockits a definite improvement over the factory amp. and the sub actually pounds pretty good. im sure i could turn up the gain a little bit too but for all you out there still using the factory sub i would suggest that you try hooking up a different amp to it.

oh awesome! that sounds like a good idea. my friend can hook me up w/ some amps. so this should be a very inexpensive mod. now do u run the rest of the speakers thru the stock amp and only run the sub thru the aftermarket amp?

Thats cool, i tempted to try it. what impedance does the kappa amp run on? There are a quite a few 1 and 2 ohm amps out there to try.

Have you checked how hot the amp is getting under load?

Thanks

haha, it sounds alright. pretty shallow though compared to an aftermarket sub, but it does the job if u couldnt be bothered, or if u dont have money for an aftermarket system. my case bein the latter. lol

from what he told me, it sounds pretty good, and way better than the stock headunit. he now has more control over the type of sound he wants to get as far as adusting the bass, treble, and even the EQ.
