Sticky sport shift

I recently decided to play with the sport shift again after deciding not to use it with the 5th tranny. I pushed it over and I realized that the ups and down are really rough, like something needs to be lubed or something. Is there somewhere or something to spray to help loosen it up?

pop off the shift knob, then tak e ascrew driver and pop off the shift gate cover, and take some alchohol and a towel to clean it, then use some goo gone on the plastic to get all the grime out

I'll give that a try. Wasn't sure if it's something that was reachable...didn't want to take it all apart only to find out I can't access the part that needs to be cleaned.

The shifter on my mom's 00 was sticking, especially during cold weather. I think something was spilt on the centre console (probably a can of Pepsi from my sister) so my friend suggested we spray some brake cleaner in there then wipe it down to get the gunk out then we sprayed some lube in there (all I had on hand was WD-40). We did this back in January and it hasn't been sticky since. Some days were brutally cold this winter and my mom never complained about any difficulty trying to move the shifter.

That's exactly like how my car feels but I just bought it weeks ago. There are some cold mornings and mine gets sticky too. I'm pretty sure it's some kind of coffee that got spilled in my car since.....well it smells like starbucks.
