Sticky gas pedal

the gas pedal on my 03 tl-s sticks sometimes, when you take your foot off the brake and press on the gas pedal, sometimes it sticks and you have to press it hard to go. Almost like there is groove worn on a roller and it gets hung up. Anyone else have the same problem or a solution that i can do. Or should i just take it back to the dealer?

BTW, It does not happen all the time. I'd say about 1/2 the time.

I had this problem in my truck and it my TL. Carbon gets built up on the throttle body butterfly and casues it to stick in the throttle body. This is generally associated with higher mileage cars, because there is no carbon going in there excpet recycled crankcase fumes from the PCV valve. Don't know why this would happen to your '03 unless you make a whole lot of short trips. Fuel goes down between the piston and wall when the engine is cold because of the rich mixture and cooler burning temps. The Fuel is burned on the "wrong side" of the piston really poorly becaseu it only really evaporates from the heat, and when the PCV valve pulls it into the intake, it builds up of the Throttle Body. Too much information, maybe.

If this is the case, go get a big can of throttle body cleaner and a really bad toothbrush, and clean all that crap out. It should take a small amount of time, and make your car much more drivable. To keep this from happening, you can run it out on the road for a while, you know sustained high rpm, high airflow stuff. I know, I know, that will be hard to do.

If it is not better after you do that, then I have no idea what it could be.

I rarely take short trips in my TL, i have a company car that i use during the week and my TL is for the weekend where 90% of the time i am driving over 30 miles each way on the freeway. My TLs has 11,000 and is 14 months old, so i dont think it would be carbon build up in that short of a time.

It's really funny you mentioned that. They were talking about it on Car Talk this morning. Like efeazel said, they said that the throttle body probably needs cleaning.

Cofidis2 ,must be a biker? Anyway I had this problem with my 2002 TLS where there were times I couldn't even depress the gas pedal or it would stick in a position while coming out of cruise control. My local dealership changed the throttle linkage as per a service memo that had just been released by Acura.

hey cofidis2, I can say w/ 100% acc. it's exactly as efeasal said. sticky oil vapors get recirculated by the pcv into the air intake on the outside air side of the 2 butterflies that the TLS has. If you want to fix it your self just remove the rubber air hose from the trottlebody and with some solvent rub the edge of the butterfly and where it rests against the TB. The first Bfly is easily reached but the deeper one is a bit more diff but not impossible.
good luck and it's not uncommon for this to happen on some cars mostly imports. I think the dia. of the t cable linkage plays a big role on how much you feel the sticking in the petal.
