Question sticking throttle

The gas pedal on my 2002TL sticks when initially pushed down. You have to push harder on the pedal to get the pedal to move then the car surges forward. This happens about 30% of the time. The dealer says if it does not do it when he drives it he cannot fix it. Has anybody had this problem so I can point the dealer in the right direction? Thanks for the help.

Other than this the car has been problem free for 18000 miles.

Just fixed mine, put lube on and around the spring controlling the butterfly. Work the plate by hand many times. Don't use WD40, it's water based. It will evaporate and it actually causes rusting. Learn from machinist. Liquid lube tends to work better than grease. It's been fine. Hope that help, or bring it to the dealer.

It's quite simple even w/o pics. Once you loosen the four bolts holding the engine cover, the whole assebly is exposed. You don't need to take out anything, just use your finger (if using grease) to apply on the spring and around. Or use the attached nozzle hose if comes with can spray (ex. Valvoline syn lub), spray around the area. There are two springs. One for the gas pedal and other for the cruise control cable, I did both. Make sure you work the plate by hand many times, so the lub has chance to saturate in tight space. Or step on the gas pedal yourself. I don't think I can post pics (too poor to upgrade membership), sorry.

Writing from Japan,

Sticking throttle WAS one of small issues I have experienced with my 2002 TL for these 12 months (I still like my TL very much.
My Japanese dealer also could not reproduce it, but they have trusted me and they replaced throttle body under warranty.
And after then, my throttle is really smooth.

This is my experience.

just curious amfjabe - whats the difference between a saber and an inspire? same cars right?!?!?! As far as a sticky throttle, my old infiniti had the problem. Originally, it was the floormat getting under it, and it actually got stuck in the fully open position in a walmart shopping center once.... I just slammed the thing in park... not good. But, a bunch of gunk got in my pedal and was causing it to stick, but my dealer fixed it for me.

I am not from Japan, but sort of understand the Japanese characters. I believe one difference is the engine size, while Saber offers the smaller 2.5 like the last gen and the Inspire has only 3.2. I could be wrong.

Unhappy I DISAGREE

I believe that to correctly Cure a Sticking Throttle that the Throttle plates and bore need to be cleaned---This is a rather Easy Repair just need a good throttle body cleaner and a tooth brush and a way to Keep throttle wide open will this procedure is performed--

Hi, Comet2404 and KJ32!

Well, all the differences between Saber and Inspire are design issues as follows.

1. Front grill
2. Alloy wheel
3. Rear combination lamp
4. Emblems
And Saber and Inspire are sold through difference dealer channel.
Saber is sold at HONDA PRIMO and HONDA VERNO.
Inspire is sold at HONDA CLIO.

And both Saber and Inspire provide two types of engines. Both types have 5-speed AT with manual mode.
1. 2.5L V6 (200HP)
2. 3.2L V6 Type-S (260HP)

Mine is 2.5.
