Stereo Code Issue

Hello,
I did a search but I couldn't find anything similar to the problem I am having.

I finally removed my deck the other day and got the serial number to obtain the code from the dealership. The code the dealership gave me is still showing an error. I did notice that my deck was from a 01 TL and I own a 03 would this be the problem and also the radio attenna is broken.

Does anyone have any suggestions what might be causing this problem.

Well my first question is how is the antenna broken? or are you talking about where the antenna plugs in, bc the antenna is printed in the back windshield. now im just guessing but if the 02-03 radios work just fine in the 99-01 i dont see why the 01 wouldnt work in your car. i would start with unplugging the battery for a while

it is possible that they gave you the wrong code. Make sure there is constant voltage running through the car. This will keep it from not working.Last call the dealer to verify the code they gave you.

Checked with 2 diffrent dealerships and I have confirmed that the stereo code is correct, but still when I enter the code I get an error. Maybe I am entering it wrong, is there a way it should be entered.

I have exactly the same problem now - and with an 03 TL. I have the code in the document packet that came with the car. Tried many times this week to input it and always got an error message. Today I took it to our dealership and the service representative had the same result. He suggested bringing the car in for a day so that they can remove the radio. Clearly there was some kind of foul-up at the factory.

Stereo Code Issue

Heard today that some Acuras won't accept the stereo code if it's input while the antenna is connected to the back of the radio.

^^^ Yup your right, you have to unplug the antenna from the back of the radio, input the code, then plug it back in. When I have to re enter the radio code, all I do is remove the side panel on the driver side, get my hand in behind the radio and unplug it. Put the code in, the radio should come back to life but with alot of static of course(antenna unplugged), then plug the antenna back in and it will be back to normal.

Wasn't the '01 radio a single CD unit? They went to 6 disc changers in '02. If you have the 6 disc changer in your '03, the radio's not an '01 model.

Yes it is a single CD player, The radio has not worked since I bought the car. The radio was replaced for some reason.

How easy is unplugging the antenna, without removing the radio?

Not hard. if you remove the Right side panel on the center console you can get your hand in there and unplug it

Thanks. Will give it a try when I have a little spare time.

This is a case of bad Acura engineering. There's no point in forcing the owner of a car to do anything but entering code in order to restore a car audio system to functionality. Requiring that an antenna be unplugged from a radio before code can successfully be entered isn't going to affect a thief who has already stolen the radio.

It's also a case of bad Acura documentation since the owner's manual says nothing about unplugging the antenna.

You can also go for a drive with the stereo on in the error mode. I did this and when I got to my destination I was able to enter the code with out removing the antenna.

I had a similar problem with the antenna breaking. I shoved a needle into the end of the wire and replaced the cap. I have no problem getting a great AM/FM signal now.

So far I haven't been able to make that work. How long a drive might that take? And how does the stereo know that the car is being driven - as opposed to the stereo's just being left on for a certain length of time?

Another testimonial for the unplugging antenna technique- it works! I just got the car back from the shop and the battery was unplugged, so i had to input the code. Code wasn't working, so i followed advice here - removed driver's side panel and unplugged antenna, and there ya go- it worked.
