Steering wheel swap
I just swapped the original steering wheel on my '99 TL with an '02 Type-S wheel, and it was so much easier than I expected! The only "specialty" tool I needed was a torx bit (size T30). Everything else is either a screwdriver, socket wrench, etc.
I was most concerned about screwing around with the airbag. If it were to blow up in my face, I'd be fuct, not to mention a whole lot poorer as they are expensive to replace. But removing the airbag turned out to be fairly simple, as well as the rest of the project.
I know I'm rambling, but the moral of the story is that "do it yourself" (DIY) is the best way to go. It's so much more rewarding knowing that I did it on my own. This goes for all mods, except for the ones that I'm not qualified or equipped to handle. Otherwise, do it yourself and save a few bucks.
Props to the A-TL moderators for having an entire section devoted to DIY projects!

I got my wheel for about $55 on Ebay (plus additional shipping costs).
Just a note of precaution: the wheel in the above auction doesn't look exactly like the wheel I purchased. Specifically, the metal rods connecting the center piece to the outer wheel are different than those on my wheel. After I removed the old wheel from my '99, it was identical to the replacement wheel. The wheel in question may still work, but it looks different from the one I installed.
Good luck!
