Steering problem
Steering problem
Lately i have had trouble with my steering. It feels stiff and it sometimes shakes when make turn. The wheel doesn't feel smoothe when i go for a turn. What could be the problem? Do i need steering fluid?
I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow for the steering problem and the tranny recall. How long do they keep your car for the recall if you have less than 15k miles and can i argue with them and make them fix the whole transmission instead of just adding the oil jet kit?
BTW i have a 03 type-s, thanx in advance

as for the steering it could be 2 things. either the power steering pump, or the rack. as for how lonf for the recall. it shouldnt take more than 30 min to install teh oil jet kit. and there is nothing they can do to fix the tranny!
It sounds kind of basic, but check the level of power steering fluid in the reservoir- my girlfriend's Hyundai had a similar problem with stiff steering and a noisy power steering pump (01 Elantra). I added some fluid up to the full line and it worked perfectly. Just a suggestion.

My Acura went in for service this morning for "notchy" steering characteristics. With the car sitting idle, I could swiftly turn the steering wheel from left to right and feel a slight disconnect (and somewhat feel/hear it through the floorboard). Basically, it was not a smooth transistion from left to right unless you were very gentle with the movements. My biggest problem was the shimmying I would feel through the steering wheel while turning corners. Again, not too major but enough to drive me nuts. After the dealer inspected, I was expecting them to give me the usual "Not reproducable" status. Instead they informed me that the rack is wearing out and they could see the characteristic described by putting car on rack, and could feel the slight vibration by slightly turning the wheel back and forth. They also told me that my fluid was extremely dark (which it really is), even though it is still full. They told me that I could take a risk and do the flush for $130, but because the rack is worn to a point the fluid flush may be useless. Sounds like to me I will need to replace the rack to get the new car steering effect back. Has anyone else with over 115k miles notice that their steering isn't as "crisp" as it was when new? I ask dealer if this is common, he tells me that this is normal wear and tear for the mileage that a lot of car owners don't even look into correcting. By the way, they also indicated that the PS pump is in excellent condition (which I figured it was).
