What about the keys? Maybe you need it to be re-programmed. Have it check.

Our key has immobilizer features. If the programming is screwed up then your car won't start but you can still turn the key to on position.

Do you have another key to try? Even the valet one.

Go to the dealer and have them check your key. I got my spare key for $25 (programmed).

UPDATE: The manual tells you how to tell if your car recognizes your key. So that wasnt the problem. It was a bad solinoid on the starter. The plastic surrounding the positive connection was cracked. So now it starts up like a champ.

The manual does state that you should avoid having large metal objects near the key in orde to prevent an electrical interference between the chip and the immobilizer. But I have like 10 keys on a metal key chain -- no problems.

Plastic isn't exactly good at preventing electrical interference therefore removing a piece of it wouldn't affect anything; so I would say no to your question.

Oh, I know. I was just blabbering like I always do.

Like you mentioned, the immobilizer would simply say yes or no; there's no "hmm, this key may not be the right one... let's give it a sluggish start."
