SRS Warning Light

The SRS (Safety Restraint System) warning light came on in my '00 TL last week. Dealer reset the light, and ordered some parts "just in case" the light came back. Three days later, the light came back on. So I now sit at the dealership, and it is being fixed UNDER WARRANTY ! Not sure how much the parts are, but I suspect it is an expensive repair.

The Acura comes with a 10 year safety equipment warranty - good for me !

Additional note: As I sit in the waiting room, I can hear another TL owner call the service desk and complain that the SRS warning light just came on. Sounds like there may be some connection to cold weather and older TLs. Heads up!

Maybe a recall or TSB is on the way.

There is a known issue and a recall and warranty extension has been already been put inplace.

Acura has a 10 year 150k miles warranty on the SRS system and the parts that were replaced are the ones that fail

You may be able to reset the light if it was an error- BUT beware the Airbags DO NOT WORK when the light is SRS light is on
Get it checked out

Registering your car with acura will provide info on ALL recalls - bulletins and difficulty reports 1-800-382-2238 x5 and tell them you are new owner
and the online version too
https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/login.asp?brand=acura
you will need your cars VIN for both of those

You sure it's 10yr 150K? Mine went off a few months ago and my local dealer said it's not covered.

Oh and it just went off last night. Seems like when I do a panic stop and stuff flies off the front seat it trips the light.

never trust the dealer service writer on the phone
CALL 1 800 382 2238 x5 and ask
Have your VIN handy. I only know about my 01TL and what acura said.
When I registered there- the guy was actually a retired tech who owned an acura and looked things up in 3 different books. He mentioned the SRS and emphasized the importance of it being Light ON means system OFF.
You may also be fooling the system- the passenger seat has a weight sensor- you may notice the side airbag light from time to time when stuff sitting there, if the car thinks your passenger just headed for the dashboard in a panic stop- its NOT going to allow airbags to deploy and should give SRS light to warn you of that
Try storing things properly in back and test drive again

I have this problem as well. Funny thing was the dealer told me it was under warranty and supposedly ordered the parts needed but I never heard back from them and the last time I took it in they tried to weasel out of it. I haven't had much time to take it in to get it fixed.

I registered at Owner link but could not find any recall or bulletin information for the SRS light. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Its not listed on the website- thats just basic info
You have to call and register and ask for search of ALL recall and warranty isssues, which I am told are in a physical book not on the computer!
1-800-382-2238 x5
If they say you are covered then get into the dealer!

I have a 2000 TL with the SRS light on as well. I took it to the local Acura dealer in Northern Virginia, and it turned out I was 4 days after the 10 year extension to the warranty

So he would not fix it under warranty. I even tried calling American Honda and requested them to cover it, but no dice.

So I want to fix it myself. I looked at the Service Bulletin 06-008 (http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/ac...01318_opds.pdf) where it describes the procedure for replacing and resetting the OPDS unit.

Need some help figuring our what the "original part number" for the unit is. This will apparently decide whether I need to replace the Seat Back cushion or just the OPDS unit.

The bulletin says:

"Check the part number of the installed OPDS unit.
• If the OPDS unit has an original part number, go to step 6.
• If the OPDS unit has a new part number (refer to PARTS INFORMATION) or higher, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B: OPDS SENSOR REPLACEMENT."

The new part # as listed in the bulletin (and I have it) is 81334-S0K-307, and the old part number in the Acura is 81334-S0K-A612-M1 . How do I know if that is the "original" or not? Googling hasn't helped.

Do I need to replace both the seat back cover and the OPDS unit, as was done for a poster on another thread?

Thanks
