SRS light on

Took my 2000 TL to Crown Acura in Richmond VA, they want $700 to replaced the main SRS main unit.

Is this something I can do?

Thanks

Ask the SERVICE MANAGER if this is part of the special exteneded SRS warranty to 10 years 150k miles
And call acura and ask too- certain parts of the sysytem are covered for a reason- they fail!

had this problem on my honda accord....know a service tech..(lots of things can make this go off...things that have nothing to do with the srs light...change of temp..moisture..etc...)the tech said save my cash and do this....

**disconnect both positive and negative ends off my battery...touch them/hold them together for 10-15 seconds.THIS WILL NOT F*CK ANYTHING UP!!! reconnect you battery, and the light is now off!!!!!!

granted if there is a problem with the srs, the light will come back on later, and then you need to resolve that problem..99% of the time it is a false alarm...

try this and garanteed your light goes off!!!!!!

SRS light was on im my car too, go have the dealer check to see if it is the OPDS failure. If it is, they replace it for free. I had my dealer replace mine last week for free and SRS light has been off ever since.

My SRS light came on in my 02 CL and the dealer replaced a sensor in the drivers buckle, all under warranty. Take it to your dealer.

I know most dealers will replace SRS problems for minimal costs but what are they charging to diagnose the problem?

My service consultants states it's nothing related to the SRS unit. My vehicle has 170 miles on it. I will contact Acura Customer service on Monday.

Thanks for the reply

Some of you need to just buck up and pay the diag fee. When the SRS light is on NONE of the airbags will work in a accident. If it is a warranty item the charge will be waived.

toantran99 the main unit is 285.19$ Buy it and replace it yourself. Its behind/under the radio. Its not to terribly hard to do.

if your code was for internal failure of SRS unit than it WILL be back so dont make any calls just yet. BTW The ONLY thing that is covered under the extension is a failure in the OPDS system. Buckles are lifetime.

yep - resetting the light does not fix the problem
You can clear a CEL but still have a failed sensor somewhere

I don't have to fix the srs light anymore. My airbag is working, I just hit the railing on my way home from work.
Total frontal damaged, both airbag deployed.
My car has 170k on it but I hope they wont totaled it.
I just got a new trans, all new motor mount, timing belt, water pump, tensioner, radiator, and a kick ass sound system.

More post to come.

Sorry to hear that man, good thing your ok though.

I think if you can provide receipts for items, insurance can give you more.
That happened to me with a previous vehicle. I got new tires a week before and got additional money for proving that with a receipt.

Dang the luck, Sorry 'bout that. I think I will ride my bike to work now, lol. Irony rules the day. Glad you reset it being that it seems it doesn't work when light is on. Glad you're ok. Let us know what happens

The secret warrantee might be too secret

I just bought a 2000 TL from a friend of mine. It has the SRS light on as does several other TL/CL’s I looked at. He took it into the dealer last year, and was told it was 850 dollars to fix at the Acura dealer in Calgary. There was no mention of the extended warrantee. Since it wasn’t his principle car, he didn’t bother getting it fixed. I called the same dealership today to see if it was covered under the extended warrantee, and I was told it was, but that it expired in February 2010 after 10 years. My friend was never told this was covered under the warrantee, and he even had to pay the service charge to diagnose the problem. He bought it from this same dealership new back in 2000. I am fighting to get them to fix the problem, and refund the service charge back to my friend. I will post what the end conclusion is later.

first see if canada has the same 10 year- or 150k MILES srs warranty
thats a usa thing,, and never know what crossed the border~

the special warranty covers something like 5 of the 6 parts in the system that can be part of the problem- per service managers on here-- its 99.9% chance SRS light on is covered
BUT
time and mile limits always apply

You can always ask for GOODWILL for you, but trying to get someone else a refund..
you are either the worlds best negotiator !!!
or a major dreamer~

and welcome to acurazine~

SRS light

I bought the car from my friend needing the SRS light repair. He had it into the dealership last December, but they told him it was 850 to fix. Since he didn't drive the car that much, he decided not to fix it. I bought the car, and found oout in this forum the SRS light was defective. I called the dealership, and they said the problem was in the passenger seat, and it was cover up until February of this year. I am trying to get the Acura dealer to fix the problem free as it was diagnosed before the 10 year limit was up, and they failed to inform my friend. Honda Canada is looking into this, and I am optimistic they will fix it. I am not too happy with my Acura dealership as this appears they did the same thing to me 3 years ago on a 1000 dollar repair bill for my CL.

Smile SRS Light covered ! Thanks AcuraZiners for the info

Well it took a couple of weeks, but I finally received the word they will fix the light under warranty. The word I had was because my friend was the original owner. Acura wanted to protect the original owner. I was told if I tried to get it by myself, I would have been out of luck. I talked to the service manager, and he said the reason my friend didn't get the warranty work originally was because he was getting the car serviced elsewhere. I didn't argue the point, but I know my friend had most of the service done at the dealership. I even have the service record where they wanted to charge to get it fixed.

I am still a little burned I had to pay close to 1000 dollars 3 years ago at this same dealer to get two things fixed on my CL (Faulty ignition swicth and drivers door power window) that were also covered under a secret warranty. The car only had 102K Km's on it. I will get the SRS light fixed, and then see what can be done about the CL. After 3 years, I suspect I am out of luck. I wish I knew of this site 3 years ago.

if you have documentation,, its not too late to ask for refund from acura
At the time, they may not have known about a problem- lets give them that one~
Now they know it should have been warranty- so reimbursement applies

in the usa trans case, cars were getting rebuilt at private shops at 51kmiles- then acura ended up paying them back when it became a known warranty prob with 100 warranty
Even people who got stuck hundreds of miles from a dealer and had to use a local repair shop got money back,,there are plenty of stories on here

a letter gets attention more than just a phone call

I have a 2000 TL with the SRS light on as well. I took it to the local Acura dealer in Northern Virginia, and it turned out I was 4 days after the 10 year extension to the warranty

So he would not fix it under warranty. I even tried calling American Honda and requested them to cover it, but no dice.

So I want to fix it myself. I looked at the Service Bulletin 06-008 (http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/ac...01318_opds.pdf) where it describes the procedure for replacing and resetting the OPDS unit.

Need some help figuring our what the "original part number" for the unit is. This will apparently decide whether I need to replace the Seat Back cushion or just the OPDS unit.

The bulletin says:

"Check the part number of the installed OPDS unit.
• If the OPDS unit has an original part number, go to step 6.
• If the OPDS unit has a new part number (refer to PARTS INFORMATION) or higher, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B: OPDS SENSOR REPLACEMENT."

The new part # as listed in the bulletin (and I have it) is 81334-S0K-307, and the old part number in the Acura is 81334-S0K-A612-M1 . How do I know if that is the "original" or not? Googling hasn't helped.

Do I need to replace both the seat back cover and the OPDS unit, as was done for a poster on another thread?

Thanks

try writing a real letter to acura corp in LA- those often get results.. while a phone call was easy to blow you off

Was it your first call to customer care and you went with that denial?- or did you pursue it up the ladder to a regional manager?

Thanks! I sent them a letter, and they responded and are covering it under goodwill. So I am going to get it covered.

Is it just the pdf above @ justanswers.com, or is there more?

dont bother calling dealer only to get blown off by a service writer about limits
those people are nothing more than SALES of repairs and parts

go see the service MANAGER and discuss the situation- they deal with corp on your behalf

First - have you done any electrical work at all recently?
any work on the car at all before srs light came on?
that can throw a false code if battery was connected-

you do a reset and if it stays away you are good!
if it comes back see dealer

warranty limits are semi flexible,, especially on this being a major safety issue of airbags!
warranty starts on date car first sold, not when it was made
So an 00 can sit on the lot till 01,,,

acura care knows the date call 1-800 382 2238 x5 ( you already know as owner from new)

If you have done any type service at dealer you get better goodwill now- oil changes in the past count
do internet search for gen2 acura TL SRS warranty

acura.com should have details of the SRS warranty-
essentially it covers 5 of 6 parts making it 99% likely its warranty covered, thats per service managers that are on here

GOODWILL warranty is for those past limits slightly
