squeaking front
squeaking front
I hear a squeaking from my front wheels (just got new pads and resurfaced rotors) and I heard some noises there recently. The grinding noise I have been hearing has slowly been disappearing so I assume it has a lot to do with freshly cut rotors...we'll see how that comes along in a few weeks...but now that the grinding quieted down, I notice that everytime I lightly depress my brakes I hear a very loud squeaking sound, but when I depress it further it disappears and I hear the faint grind of the pads against the rotors. I am assuming that the back of my pads never got greased up. Is that a good cause? If you do not lube up the back of your pads, do you get a lot of squeaking? Or could it be because of something totally different?
Brake caliper grease goes a long way to quite brakes- I use it on several parts of the caliper, not just the pad backs
Take it back to the shop and have them inspect and correct the install
Newly done brakes should not make any odd noises
You also could have a small ridge on the rotor edge from using the brakes too gently
They need to be used now and then!
Or the pad wear tab got bent and is hitting- again- shops warranty their work-its the law
What brand of pads- what is the remaining thickness of rotor- all should be on the invoice

no invoice as it was a quick cash job...10 bucks to have the guy do it in 15 minutes while there was a line in the bay...so...shit...the squealer tab is not touching anything though, so I may just go back and grease them up. I took a wheel off on my lunch and saw that no grease was applied...01tl4tl, where else would you recommend me to apply grease other than on the back of the pad (where the calipers touch, right?) Thanks for such a quick reply!
Apply brake caliper grease to the pad back where it touches the metal arms of the caliper for the outer pad- just look for wear marks on the pad back
The inner pad where it contacts the caliper piston- dont put on the piston edge itself
put on pad backing plate
Then the tabs at the end of the pads get some and the 2 metal slider rails on the caliper mount bracket- clean those and grease well- caliper slides back and forth on those
The the 2 bolts that hold caliper to bracket- the unthreaded part at the top get a dab
If it looks like it touches and has a small space- grease it!
I used the CRC synthetic on 5 cars now and stays where you put it.
