Spun out in the snow into a ditch... I hate my life.

I was coming home from an optometrist appointment, and while driving through my subdivision, I was making a left turn and the ass end slid out in the snow. I guess I was going too fast for the conditions (as a cop would say) but I really wasn't speeding or anything.

Went into a ditch and hit a metal pipe head on. The front right wheel was directly lined up with it, and I'm sure it bottomed out completely. No visible damages to the front right shock tower, but I think it's sitting very slightly higher than the other side. But maybe I'm just imagining it. I'm not sure.

When I hit it, parts of the front bumper went flying everywhere. I was so scared, but I thought it might have been a piece of the front body kit. Turns out, the right side of the front bumper is completely shattered and you can see inside the bumper. It's barely hanging on right now, so I duct-taped the hell out of it. My baby is hurt....

Got an estimate right away, and for a new front grille, bumper, inner fender skirt and painting will cost 668.14. Not too bad, but on the way home, I hear rattles all over the dash. I'm pretty sure the suspension bottomed out, and the rest of the impact force went through the dash and the frame, hence the noise. It's probably loose underneath the dash now.

I can't believe that 2 seconds of my stupidity is going to cost so much money and such inconvenience, as I am supposed to go back to school tomorrow morning. Son of a....

Oh, well. It could've been worse. I'm glad I didn't damage anything else, including the property of that house. That could've been ugly.

Drive carefully out there, guys. :o

Sorry about your misfortunes. That's why I drive a beater car in the snow! You might also want to invest in a set of snows.

ouch!

Hey Rob,

Sorry to hear about your car ... those pics probably look a lot worse than it actually is (or are they?) I know your baby is hurt. But like you said -- it could have been worse (ie damaged another car, property, etc) Another reason why the stock tires aren't the best for 'all seasons'. I'm seriously thinking of changing the OEM Michelins (with 30000 miles on them) for Sumis or Continentals in the near future.

Well, there was a tree about 2 feet to the left, and I'm so glad that I didn't hit that. It was a big ass tree, too, and I doubt it would give.

Well, my dad gets home in about half an hour. Time to face hell. He's going to kick my ass so bad. Oh, God.

Thanks for the kind word, guys. Looks like I'm getting all the parts from Tim at Hond**********.com and doing the work myself, except the paintjob. I'm trying to see if Tim can arrange to have it painted prior to shipping at his body shop.

If your around the Detroit area, there used to be a great body shop called Knudson's, they were down in Canton off of 275 around Ford Rd. Dont know if there still there or not. I Used to know the owners. I used to work for Sunshine Acura in Farmington Hills (Motor City Harley now) I think Suburban Acura is the dealer now?

Suburban Acura is about half an hour from me. I haven't been there yet, but Darrin takes his car there and from what I've read, he's not too happy with them, I guess.

Anyway, I jacked up the car today to check out the suspension, only to find out that when I hit the sewer pipe, the jacking point got crushed and it's sitting on its side. I'll have to get a body shop weld a new one on. This definitely sucks ass. No damages to the rest of the car, though. Chassis looks fine, I think the jacking point took most or all of the impact (takes a lot of fold that focker).

Sorry to hear about your problem. The only good thing out of it - for the next few month you will drive VERY carefully (personal experience ).

To check for suspension damage, the easiest thing is to measure from top of the rim (not the tire) to the bottom of the whell well, car has to be on leveled surface, empty and have same air pressure in front tires. This is not as good as what the bodyshop can do, but will give you idea how bad the damage is.

Hey bud .. look at how your hood aligns with the front body panels. I had an integra and ended up jumping a curb with it (someone cut me off).

I knew that the one side had the suspension bent back a bit .. turns out the the control arms were bent .. (both had to be replaced). But when they changed the control arms out . .they noticed that the hood wasn't aligning properly .. and that the subframe that the suspension connected to was partially bent from the extreme force upward when the tire hit the curb.

Turns out, when they tried to align it, the computer wouldn't do it .. as the other side was bent too. Took me two different repair visits and estimates to get it fix as they got into it due to the damage that wasn't visible right away.

Just keep that all in mind.

Thanks, Divin.

I checked everything out thoroughly. Body panels are lining up as before, suspension is fine, nothing bent. Well, except for the jacking point. :o

Sorry to hear about the car. But I'm so glad to hear you came out of it OK. The car can be replaced even if you totalled it, but you can't be. When things like these happen, even for a split-second, it scares the living crap out of us.

But maybe, just maybe there was something very powerful out there that intervened and gave us another chance to look back at it and learn from it.

Take the crap from your old man. It's expected. He's most likely going to freak, but would tell you that it's good you got back in one piece.

Winter and the TL don't mix well. Slow down and be careful out there.

Best regards and glad to see you back.

Sorry to hear.

Even without accidents, snow tires more than pay for themselves.

Same here in south Florida

Actually I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, but keep your chin up as this is just one of life's little bumps in the road. It could have obviously been worse, so try to look at it like that, and use it as a learning experience.

Things will get better, they always do as long as you have your health
