springs preference
just wanted to know if any TLS owners that have experience with the Comptech Springs & H&R Sport Springs, have a preference between the two?
Ride quality to me matters more than increased handling, so if there's a distinguishable difference between these springs, I'd like to know before purchasing.
Also, how long can I expect to retain my stock shocks before having to upgrade those?

COMPTECHS all the way!!!!!! Comptechs are made for Honda/Acuras. Comptech only has the Acura in mind which is good instead of Eiback or H&R. Now, I am not knocking them, its just that I like the "pampered" feel knowing they were made for my car. Ride quality is excellent, you will feel the speed bumps, etc a little more, but the handling and ride far out ways it! Also, you will pay more for them, but heck, you only live once!
comptech springs are outsourced per their specs. best case scenario is that theyre made by eibach with the comptech sleeving...worst case scenario is theyre made by god knows who...i wouldnt go by the specially made for acura/honda for anything by comptech but rather by people's experience and the comptechs seem to gauge well.
people on this forum all seem to be happy with comptechs, H&Rs, and eibachs...the comptechs are much more expensive which may be a factor. i haven't had any problems with my H&R Sports with what i think is the perfect lowering for 18" wheels with no sagging over time (this i expected from being a repeat owner of H&R) and a comfortable ride.
i don't think you could lose with either of the mentioned companies...
you can use your stock shocks but expect them to require replacing after 20k miles or so since the stock shocks are not valved to withstand the increased load from lowering.

I thinks is BS. Can someone prove to me that comptech DOES NOT USED the same springs for both TL/accord V6. Beacuse they have different pages for each does not mean that they are different, plus they don't post their part numbers to compare.
H&R does the same thing, they are made for V6 accord, but fit the TL because the TL runs down to an accord. I have tested both H&R and comtech springs. I have H&R on my car. Their is basically no difference. Just price $$$$

Comptech at one time did outsource its springs to be manufactured by another company per their specs. At present though, their springs are made by themselves.
I didn't need to get a camber kit because the springs are close enough to stock to still meet factory tolerances. They handle quite well too.
If you want proof that they are not merely renamed Accord springs, I don't have it. I think there is a comptech employee that visits this forum. Maybe he can provide a definitive answer.

the part# for the springs is
61.1051
Says it fits 99-01 TL, 98-01 Accord, 01 CL-S. Lowers 1.25"
Sways are the same way.. fits all three cars. Same part#
33.3200
1-1/16" tubular front, 7/8" solid rear.
But the exhuast is different.

Hope that helps.

I've been reading these boards for a couple of months now on the same subject: which springs to go with? I've been weighing the differences between Comptech springs and H&R springs, going by what members of the board have posted. As I see it, not much difference between the two at all. Both Comptech and H&R customers are very satisfied with the quality of their choices. Thus, I have chosen H&R. In my opinion, might as well save $100. Put it towards some other mod that you like (Type-S floor mats
).
).
Comptech, H&R (all the stages), Eibach, Neuspeed, or Ground Control Coilover (the springs on those are made by Eibach).... which to use, or should I ask... which NOT to use? Seems like everyone is happy with theirs. Anyone NOT happy?
i think i may have settled on the comptechs...
doing some further research in the tire/wheels sections of the forum, ive noticed that people with the H&R (sport) springs have had slight rubbing problems in the rear wheel well area of their car. None of the people who have Comptechs have complained about rubbing (either front or back, unless they upsized the wheels/tires). This may be due to the fact that the H&R springs drop the car evenly (1.75/1.75) while the Comptechs drop the car less in the back (1.75/1.5).
the ppl w/H&Rs have remedied this problem by cutting/shaving plastic molding in the rear wheel well, but I don't think I want to go that route. For one I'm lazy, and two, I dont like cutting things off the car, bc it usually ends up broken and/or ****-looking afterwards...
so yes, i'll dish out the extra $100 if only for peace of mind....

Haha you are funny. The car rub because of the width of the wheels + offset not because of the springs
. I know people that rub with comptech springs. So you could throw that research out

so then answer me this? what is compechs reasoning behind making springs that lower the car unevenly? With an already overwhelming front-weight bias, how would adding more weight to the fore section of the car be a good thing? or is weight distro not affected by uneven spring levels?
I believe not. I think they do it for safety measures than performance. Because the front wheels turn, they can only be lower to a point before hitting the car inner fenders. That is an average drop, it does not mean you are going to get an exact drop of 1.75, but very close with a very minor - +. The spring on the back are not as stiff as the ones on the front, so after the springs settle, the back might be lower(smaller gap) than the front. So making the spring a bit bigger in the back, it might actually give you a perfect drop from their perspective.
Can someone put more input on this, I think I'm right, but not 100% sure. Hope it helps anyways.

Question: How is everyone measuring the drop on their cars? The most accurate method to my knowledge is to measure from the midpoint of the wheel well fender down to the midpoint of the Acura center caps on the wheels.
I called Comptech today and spoke to one of thier reps who told me that 1.75" lowering for thier front springs sounded too low. Thier website claims "about 1.25" lower in the front. He mentioned that thier test car was a standard TL a NOT a TL-S.
Could this be why the difference? If not, then is it 1.75", 1.5", 1.25" or what?
I made a big boo boo and bought the H&R OE springs without asking around and have learned from some of you that the front will drop 1" with the rear going down 1.25" giving it a very undesirable look.
They are still in the box and I am still unsure if I should spend the $60 to install them or not. If they do drop the rear more than the fronts I will definately be dissapointed which is why I am now leaning towards the Comptechs.
One thing that I haven't seen mentioned on the board is that when the car is lowered the headlights might have to be reaimed.
If the trunk is also full of cargo the nose might be pulled up slightly- one minor advantage for having the rear higher with the Comptechs.

headlight adjustment is easy, theres a screw in the engine compartment, u just have to take it to a wall...turn the lites on(before lowering) then lower it then go to the wall again and make the lites match....taht i kno but i'm not sure baout other info

I got my comptechs put in today. I LOVE THEM!!!
I'm glad I didn't go with the H&Rs now. The extra $100 was well worth it.

Well to throw a monkey wrench into this thread, I got the H&R race, with a 2.2" drop front, 1.75" drop rear. No wheel well gap in front or back. The front does look a bit lower, but that's fine with me; just a more aggressive stance and look to it. Ride is more harsh than sport, but not unbearable. And the turns I can make...ooh, I'm in cornering heaven!
What about this?
I am thinking of lowering the FRONT ONLY with Comptech or H & R OE. My car is little uneven. After putting 18" rims, My rear looks lowerd but my front does not look as low. I have about 2 1/2 finger gap in the rear ( which I am very happy with) but I have 4 finger gap in the front so if I lowered the front only, I think it will even things out.
What do you guys think?
How will this affect my ride quality by just lowering the front?

If I use HR OE on all 4 wheels, wouldn't that make my car uneven just like now? The only reason I want to lower the front is to even out the gaps but on HR OE spring, the drop is the same in all 4 areas.
If you want to get rid of wheel well gap, then you should consider getting H&R sport or H&R race springs (race springs will give the slammed look). If you only want to even out the wheel well gaps, springs alone won't do want you want. You will have to go with adjustable shocks or coilovers. For example, my race springs drop my front 2.2", and my rear 1.75". The front is flush with no gap, but the rear wheel tucks in just a few millimeters. As you can see, there is no same amount of gap between wheel and wheel well. Adj. shocks or coilovers are required. Hope this helps.
