spring under radiator cap?

Hi All,

Recently I've been having some cooling problems and thanks to all the posts here -- especially 01tl4tl, I think I've been able to get a handle on it. The only curious thing left is the spring under the radiator cap. I thought since my original radiator cap was broken, it didn't hold the spring right and the spring moved to a point of almost actually falling into the radiator via that side opening. I have since replaced the cap and but I'm not sure if I put in the spring right since it moved again and it almost fell into the opening again. Does anyone have a trick on how to get that spring to stay?

thanks!

it should stay in place-only push straight down on the disc to test the spring function.
When its in place it wont move side to side- pressure opens it to flow to the res bottle

try a better cap? any parts store should do

01tl4tl,

It's a brand new oem cap. It's not a spring "in" the cap as in its not attached to the cap in any way. It's like this separate spring that sits in the opening of the radiator. Or did it somehow drop out of the old broken cap before I replaced it?

okay, thanks for confirming. It probably fell out of the broken old cap. When I removed it the first time, the spring stayed behind so I thought it a little odd that it was there. It sort of fit so I thought in some weird way it was supposed to be there. I'll leave it out now.
